Forget Marks & Spencer if you need to get on top of your 5-a-day fruit and veg quota at lunchtime — head to this fruit stall on Queen Street. Located near the Capitol Centre end of Queen Street(towards Queen Street Station), this busy stall has a fast turnover of produce so it all seems to be plump and fresh, as well as most of it being sourced locally. Not only will you find the fruit from here a LOT cheaper than the stuff you can buy from the likes of Marks & Spencer or Boots, but they also use a lot less packaging(if any!) and most of it travels fewer miles to get to you. If you need your grapes peeled for you, however, stick with Marks and Spencer…

Here is a list of things that worry me: Large crowds of old people: their slow-moving, mumbling hordes remind me of zombies but, whereas I would happily plough through a horde of zombies, old people are far more fragile and it is not yet socially acceptable to send them spinning to the ground like so many toffee-sucking bowling pins. Street vendors: they all remind me of that big guy from Oliver Twist, and, whilst he turned out to be at least a bit of a nice guy, I can’t help but feel that anyone with a voice that bellowing is mere seconds away from growing to 10 feet tall, looking down in disgust and shouting«MORE?!» at me. Fruit: nothing with that many colours can be good for you. There’s a reason why all the deadliest snakes are also the prettiest. Which makes it a huge surprise that I actually like this fruit stall. It stands out as something which almost doesn’t belong there; Queen Street is one of the more spruced up shopping areas of Cardiff and to see a fruit stall sat there seems delightfully anarchic. On the odd days that a healthy mood has struck me and I’ve ambled through town looking for a tasty treat, this stall has always provided. It has a great selection of fruit and veg, with all the old standards as well as seasonal specialties if the weather allows it, all for an incredibly affordable price. And he hardly ever shouts«MORE?!» at me.

A market stall that is full of every kind of fruit and vegetable that you should need on a day to day basis, cheap prices and friendly staff to serve you. Have a local, Welsh atmosphere slap bang in front of you. A perfect location for everyone to visit and although it does not have its own building for an address, it is nearly always in its usual spot in the town centre of Cardiff on Queen Street. In between Sainsbury’s local supermarket and some of the other businesses opposite Sainsbury’s building. It is a pretty little store that always brings a unique atmosphere to Cardiff’s town centre. So I recommend it as a place that all humans should come and visit and they should go and buy some fruit and vegetables from this stall.

This stall is located next to the Lobster Bob shop, at the end of Queen Street near Sainsbury. It is a fantastic stall, as long as you can be bothered to go into town to get your veg. Sometimes it is hard to find the motivation to do that, knowing that you’re walking past three supermarkets to get there. It is definitely worth the trip, though,(and, because it is town, most people will find it convenient) because all of the produce is so fresh. It is also sourced locally, which is extremely important to me. The prices are all very cheap too and the service is great. Really, I don’t know what else you could want. A locally sourced, great serviced, easily accessible store, for all of your fruit and veg needs!
