While visiting Cardiff earlier this year a family member and I opted to duck into Prezzo to grab some much-needed lunch after taking the train in. I remember thinking as we walked into the building that the wood fire oven, which was set in plain view of the tables and seats, was a good sign. Usually those ovens mean that pretty good food will be delivered to the table. In addition to proudly displaying their working oven, the place featured two levels of seating options and a «minimalist» appearance that I really appreciated. Not only did it help a place that looks a little small on the outside feel spacious, it also let in a lot of natural light through the entire establishment during a very beautiful day. Since my travel buddy and I were visiting in September, fall flavors were inching into menus everywhere. Prezzo was no exception: one fall special that caught my eye was a pumpkin and lobster pizza — a pizza featuring spinach, cherry tomatoes, red onion, basil, roquito chilli peppers, bella lodi and mozzarella cheese on a pumpkin purée base. Ultimately my dining buddy and I ended up sharing one of these pizzas. We admittedly didn’t read the menu as closely as we should have and so we were surprised by how hot the peppers were — that was entirely our bad, though. They weren’t bad as a topping by any means, either. And the other toppings definitely helped to balance out the peppers, so the meal we got was ultimately quite tasty. Very creamy, too, between the cheese and pumpkin base. Unfortunately, as good as the food was, the meal here was not perfect. The general delay in service others have mentioned struck at our table as well — I even avoided finishing my pepper-topped pizza until another round of water was brought out to the table at one point. I remember thinking how silly it was that no one would come by more often to check on our drinks, as the place was practically empty while we were dining. Fortunately, this was one of the only places during our trip where their wi-fi actually worked, so while it did mean we were left feeling thirsty periodically, my dining buddy and I admittedly didn’t mind the slow service for the most part. It just meant we had a chance to check our email and whatnot. Overall, the place’s look and set-up impressed me, the food left me happy and satisfied, and while the service was not perfect, the wi-fi at least was. I would consider dropping in at one of Prezzo’s locations again during a return trip to Britain, for sure.

I am not a fan of this particular branch of Prezzo. I used to go here before the new one opened in the St Davids 2 centre. One particular occasion I ordered carbonara and I kid you not it was completely tasteless! I was so disappointed because in other Prezzo’s this has been my favourite dish! Also I dont find the staff at this restaurant particulary welcoming. I went with my cousin who was 8 months pregnant at the time. We were told by a waiter that there would be a table free in about twenty minutes… So we decided to wait. Not one person working in that restaurant offered my cousin a seat. They left her standing there the whole time which made her really uncomfortable. We were just about to leave when we were seated… Terrible service… Followed by terrible food. Grrrr I do like Prezzo just not this particular one!

Every time I walk by Prezzo, I wish I had the ambition to dine here a second time. My one experience was sadly forgettable; to me, it’s just another chain on the sad stretch of chain restaurants that comprise St Mary Street. After being seated, my dining companion and I waited nearly 15 minutes to be acknowledged by our server, who must not have liked the look of us because she was mildly attentive to other diners who were seated after us. She continued to ignore us; even worse, it took ages for our mains to arrive. My pizza was deeply mediocre — you’d think it would taste amazing after waiting for what seemed like ages. Bizarrely, with such poor service, I still felt compelled to leave a gratuity(death to my overly generous American tipping tendencies!). I don’t think I’ll be coming back here; with poor service, average food, and boring minimalist interior design, you’re better off ordeing a takeaway pizza from Domino’s, to be honest.

Trendy yet traditional, I loved Prezzo before I even entered the place. Its huge glass exterior and neon blue signs give the joint an edge that many restaurants on Saint Mary Street seem to lack. Inside, the two levels are minimal, spacey with the odd plant scattered to ‘boosh’ a bit of colour into the place,(not that you need colour with the amount of red, rose and white wine the place has to offer). Of course I’m also a massive fan of Italian grub so I was easily pleased when scanning the menu, and the fact the pizzas are cooked fresh pretty much in front of your eyes with one of those real pizza-stove-making thingy-me-jingys was almost too much for me to take in. The chef was quite dishy too! The food is more than perfecto! It needs no more words. During lunch time hours(until 5) you can pick up a starter, main meal and drink for just £10. Also, if you check out the Prezzo website before you head there you can pick up amazing vouchers allowing you to have outrageous deals for eating.
All staff are friendly, punctual and good looking, and unlike most trendy, off-beat food places Prezzo has the knack of making you feel quite at home and incredibly welcome. I honestly felt like I was starring in the Welsh version of the Hills. Probably, one of my favourite places in the whole city; Prezzo is a must go.

At the start of the night I was panicking, not only was this the anniversary of my girlfriend and I getting together(had I got her a good enough present?) but we were also heading to a restaurant we had never been to, and I’d chosen it. As we enter the beautiful modern surroundings of italian restaurant Prezzo, we are greeted by a smiling, well dressed male who shows us to a table by the window. Immedietly the atmosphere is one of complete italian style, from the soft guitar strings playing quietly through the speakers to the way the waiter pulls out my girlfriends chair(tempting me to give him evils, but I’m nice so didn’t). Both being students, my girlfriend and I are accustomed to looking for the cheapest thing on the menu, however as it’s a special occasion we don’t mind going a bit mad(I was wearing socks!). The prices, I’m pleased to say, were not sky high and the quality of food we glanced at on other tables looked good. Having ordered a ‘Calzone’(folded over pizza) I couldn’t help but watch the chef, situated at the rear of the restaurant in full view, using the stone oven to bake pizzas and calzones, this was going to be tasty. In two words, it was. Excellently cooked and everymouth full a party on my tongue(getting carried away now) this was certainly worth the price I paid for it. My girlfriend having enjoyed a pasta dish equally as much, Prezzo felt like a welcome antidote to false amercian owned ‘italian’ establishments such as Pizza Hut, with the amount of effort the owners and staff(most of them Italian) put in to ensure customers enjoy their experience seemingly never ending. The night was a great success and Prezzo provided a classy and pleasant backdrop, with everything we could have wanted from an italian restaurant. With regards to the present, it was the icing on the cake. Buon appetito!

Prezzo’s is one of the few chain restaurants I don’t actually mind all that much. Whilst places like Bella Italia swamp you with disingenuous«Italian» style decoration in an attempt to convince that you’ve actually travelled through a magical doorway and landed in Italy, Prezzo wears its cynicism on its sleeve. The large windows on all sides of the restaurant make the restaurant completely transparent; there’s nothing Italian about this restaurant except the name and the pasta, and that makes me happy. Sure, there are some small attempts at Italian decoration, but the owners know you’re there to eat good food with Italian names and then get the hell out. I get the feeling that the food tastes so consistently good in this place because they don’t waste too much time with the surrounding paraphernalia. The chef ad reads«Chef required to cook pasta: nationality unimportant, skill paramount» and it shows. In every Prezzo I’ve eaten in, the food has been excellent and this one is no exception. Just don’t expect a guy with an accordion to be walking around and you won’t be disappointed.

Prezzo is a reasonable Italian Restaurant in the centre of town, helping to up the standards of the rather decadent St Mary Street, which sadly has definitely seen better days. I wouldn’t go so far as to call it in any way classy, but it is definitely a couple of steps up to some of the fast food joints that have sprung up in abundance along the street. Prices are similar to Pizza Hut, and there’s a better choice of non-pizza food that you get at this other chain, and in keeping with its rival it has regular promotional deals,(although I don’t know if they use Voucher Cloud like PH). They are currently doing a starter, main course and drink for a tenner, which is pretty good value. I recommend the risotto. I’ve taken advantage of the deals that suit my budget when I’m having a bad month, but if I’m feeling flush, I’d much rather spend a few more quid and go to the Porto Due just a few doors down. The food is vastly better, and the surroundings much more intimate, and homely. Pound for pound, I think that you get a whole lot more for your money. And, if I’m willing to drive a mile up the road, my Italian of choice in Cardiff has to be the newly opened North Star. I absolutely adore the award winning style of this sprawling Victorian building, and the food is just fantastic.

Absolutely fantastic upmarket Italian chain restaurant! The food in Prezzo utterly mouth watering and incredibly well presented. As would be expected from any good Italian they serve pasta, pizza, fish and meat dishes, but I’d personally recommend trying one of the fresh salads which are unbelievable. The staff are all incredibly accommodating, and as a fussy eater I find that they’re always more than happy to remove and substitute certain food in my chosen dish. From the outside the Cardiff Prezo looks rather small, however what many people don’t realise is that Prezo also has a much larger upstairs section. What’s interesting is whilst the downstairs can be slightly cramped there’s a really lively buzzy atmosphere, whereas upstairs can sometimes feel rather dead. Whenever I’m in town with friends and we can’t decide on where to eat(which happens very frequently), more often than not we end up at Prezo as it never ceases to please.

So there’s a deal on at Prezzo’s at the moment that always you to buy one full priced main course and buy another for £1 if your join their emailing list. From sunday to thursday. I think that’s a fair trade. I took advantage of this offer this week and went straight for the main menu. I went for the traditional lasagne that is apparently baked within their pizza oven. It certainly tasted better for it and would say it’s one of the nicest I’ve tasted bar my sisters own concoction. That and a drink was just under £15 and just under £20 altogether with the other meal/drink. All under a traditional Italian setting it is worth having look here and check the vouchers available first to save yourself some money.

Its a tad on the expensive side, but the price is much what you’d expect from this sort of restaurant. Had quite a few pasta dishes here and very much enjoyed each one. The sauces are good, and the pasta is al dente(always a measure of a proper Italian restaurant in my book). They will alter sauces to your requirements, e.g. extra chilli, which suggests they are fresh and not just catering packs. Nice prompt service and ambience, though the music is a bit too loud sometimes. One of my favourites in the centre of Cardiff.

Went there for a meal after the cinema and it is actually a nice place to go out for something to eat, but it didn’t left me a lasting impression. The staff was very nice and prompt, everything we wanted we had it. But in the end I found it to be pricy for the food we had The pizzas are £10 each, and so is the rest of the menu, they have a quite nice varied menu, compared to other places. I did like the décor, the ever so present stone oven and the attention of the staff. I didn’t like the non Italian feeling of it all, seem to bland and just another posh restaurant. I do reccomend a visit but be prepared to fork out at least £17 each, the drinks and the desserts are pricey.
