I wanted this to be so good. I always make a real effort to try and support local, independent business when I’m away, and usually am reward for this. On this occasion I wish I’d gone to the Bill’s up the road. The food was pretty good, but I’m a stickler for service and this place fell short. Fair enough it was the first day of a new menu, but it would be great to know that they didn’t have an item when we ordered, not after waiting 45 minutes, having to chase, and then being presented with something that was very much not a hash brown, and items just omitted from my friend’s plate without any offer of a substitute. Yes, we got 15% off our meal when I pointed out this was not on, but then had to chase our bill twice, after having already explained we had a train to catch. 3 stars for a tasty enough meal, but go elsewhere if you want decent service.

A cute independent bar/restaurant featuring some lovely local produce. We headed there for a Saturday brunch, having seen good reviews on trip advisor. The menu isn’t huge, but provides enough choice. Between us we all opted for combinations of the welsh breakfast, the veggie options and coffees. Sadly, despite it not being busy our food took ages to come and we even had to ask them to hurry it along as we had a train to catch. When the food did come they were all missing the potato and leek hash brown, but this came with no explanation. When we queried this our waitress was apologetic but apparently they didn’t have any, even though they were launching their new menu that day. The food was tasty and did the job, but didn’t show any flare or interesting ingredients. We then had to wait a while for anyone to come back to check we were okay. In the end we popped downstairs to ask for the bill and after waiting for ten minutes we we’re downstairs and asked to pay. We left pretty unimpressed with the service but satisfied with some of the food. Mixed review. With Bills, Jamie’s, Carluccios and Cotes just around the corner they need to step up a bit to stand out in a saturated market.

Pitch is an independent restaurant obsessed with modern Welsh food sourced locally from farmers, growers, makers and markets. Open from breakfast till an acceptable time to drink cocktails — daily. I visited for the first time this weekend. From the outside the restaurant looks quaint and inviting yet when ushered to our table upstairs I must admit I was slightly put off by the bright lighting. It wasn’t the cosy kinda feeling myself and friends had hoped for — We most definitely wouldn’t be taking any selfies! Yet for those of you who are more interested in the food and not how long your selfie stick will extend. I ordered the Marmalade Glazed Belly Pork which is served with crushed rosemary potatoes, fine beans, pork liquor and crisp crackling. *Sadly there was quite a wait for our mains, a little over an hour, during which time the table alongside us had sent back their food for being cold and the table behind had a meal missing. I put this down to the fact the restaurant is new are so are the staff. Once arrived, the meal proved to be worth the wait it was deliciously moreish — made even tastier by knowing that it was made by 100% Welsh ingredients. I would definitely visit Pitch a second time yet for breakfast or Sunday lunch.
