I LOVE this place! I was only in Wales for one day and this place was better than anything I could have imagined:) The place itself is in Mermaid Quay, which is as lovely as it sounds. The food was utterly delicious. I ordered the cawl for an appetiser as I wanted to try something Welsh, and it was a perfect and yummy lamb and vegetable stew. I am a stew person so I was very happy, it was exactly what I like. The main was even better though! I ordered roast Welsh lamb and it melted in my mouth in the tenderest and most delicious way. I was in food heaven! The vegetables were also really good with it and it was garnished with a very tasty cheese. The service was also good, our waitress was friendly and helpful. Quality food prepared to utmost deliciousness. I highly recommend this place!

Having been told over and over how fab the food is at Mimosa, I paid a visit and was blown away. The dishes on the main menu and specials menu all sounded delicious and making a choice was hard. In the end, I went for the lamb cutlets with mint oil and roast carrots and parsnip(there is a list of lovely sounding extra dishes if you want more). The waitress asked me how I wanted my lamb cooked. I asked for medium rare with the emphasis on pink in the middle and that’s exactly what I got. The mint oil was stunning, as was the quality of the meat and the sweetness of the roast veg. It really was wonderful and I’ve resolved to go back and try many more menu favourites(like the Gnocci, the pork loin medallions, the Cawl, and the mussels). The food’s not cheap(though they offer many dishes as starters or mains, which I love to see a restaurant do. Just because I don’t want a huge plateful, doesn’t mean that I don’t want quality or flavour!) but the owners of this independent eatery source as much of their produce locally and the quality shows. My lamb cutlets were around the £15 mark, but I didn’t begrudge them a penny(have been dreaming about them ever since!). The wine list is good, the décor is modern, the staff are knowledgeable and genuinely friendly. If you want to impress someone(first date maybe!) or simply want to treat yourself, head to Mimosa. It’s reeeeeeeeeeeally good.

This tends to be our default plan when it comes to family meals for birthdays and other events. As well as being stylish and modern and of a very high quality, there is no problem with us taking some of our younger family members in. I mean, it isn’t necessarily for children, but is restaurant enough to be ok for teens. The food isn’t especially exciting, but is all nice, errs towards Welsh produce and is presented well. It is a bit pricey, but the bar is well stocked and you get your drink in the right sort of glass — which is a rarity these days — and the staff are friendly, attentive and helpful. But not too helpful. I hate being pestered. Also, seemingly, this is a place where Welsh can be spoken. Nearly all of my partners family are Welsh speakers, so its a good job really.

Sophisticated, stylish and ambient. A thoroughly refreshing place to go, particularly for some casual drinks and delicious food with small groups of friends. Without wishing to sound pretentious, those more interested in getting intoxicated and causing a bit of a racket are probably best heading somewhere else. The stylish interior is matched by very well-mannered staff, a beautifully crafted menu and fine tasting beverages. Mimosa has a touch of class which sets itself apart from most of the other nearby establishments and can undoubtedly be regarded as a cut above Whetherspoons etc. Highly recommended, and of course with high quality, comes fairly substantial prices. You wont need a mortgage, but expect to pay more than you would at some of the pubs and bars a bit further down the road.

Lush Lush Lush… Chavs need not attend! This restaurant is really something else. The intimate seating area makes it fantastic for a lovers evening out. On entering this beautiful restaurant you will be wowed by the stylish inner décor. The food is not just served in this restaurant, it is delicately presented to you. The Béarnaise sauce served with the steak is simply superb. If your feeling especially flush treat yourself to a cocktail or two. Your looking at around six quid a go but the Mojito’s and the Daiquiri’s are mind blowing. The staff at this resaturant really are the sugar glazed cherry on top of the cake. They are so attentive and really do provide A class service. In the summer you can enjoy your dinner outside but if you want my opinion stay inside and absorb the luxury surroundings.

I like Mimosa it has a sophisticated feel to it that separates it from the Salt and Terra Nova’s of the bay. The food is better and I know this sounds snobby but so are the clientele. To put in in an analogous form, imagine if you will, that Salt is a place you would find Jordan eating in, then Kirsty Gallagher would be eating in Mimosa. Its that simple — Mimosa is smarter the service is better and the chefs have pride in the food they turn out. It’s also a nice place to just grab a drink. You may pay a bit more but isn’t it worth it?

Recently enjoyed a drink outside on the patio furniture. The bar and café side are typical of the bay area having a selection of beverages from wine to beer. It is a pleasant setting and a good place to have a pint before venturing back into the throng of the bay. Sitting outside in the sunshine is a must as the interior is a bit generic modern bar conversion styled. Ken Picton hair stylists are directly next door so if you are about to go for a chop and need some courage, get some.

Two things come to mind: Excellent bloody Marys and the best Pinot Noir I’ve ever tasted(it was Stonier Mornington Peninsula 2008, if you’re asking). You’d be forgiven for mistaking this Cardiff Bay establishment for just another bar, but it’s actually an acclaimed eatery that was listed in Which’s The Good Food Guide 2010. I always appreciate a restaurant where good food meets a relaxing atmosphere. On a hot summer’s day, the outdoor tables are rammed(you can only enjoy drinks outside, but no food, I’m afraid) — if you want to escape the heat, the cool air and dimly lit interior will be sure to calm your nerves.

This is a fairly sophisticated bar and restaurant serving up Welsh and European cuisine: think cockles and laver bread, Glamorgan sausages, fresh mussels and Welsh lamb cawl — washed down with a glass of champagne or fine wine! They have a lot of fish dishes on the menu, and plenty of lamb and other meats, plus some vegetarian options such as their bean burger and chips. Drinks tend towards expensive, with lots of champagnes and wines on the menu(including a couple of dessert wines for the end of your meal) — plus a good choice of cocktails from around £6.25 upwards. It’s in a great spot down in the Bay, and the décor strikes a balance between ultra modern(brushed steel) and more natural(leather seating and Welsh slate), giving the place a contemporary but comfortable feel.

As I’ve only ever drunk here I shall keep to that side for my review. Infact I didn’t actually know it did food here until very recently. I am a blind fool. Celebrating my friends graduation, we decided to have a couple of cocktails in here before running into town to have boogie. Being a lovely day we sat outside by the front door, close to the bar of course. From what I remember, inside is very simple and clean but classy looking(As mentioned in other reviews) It wasn’t anything that made me want me to come inside instead. So the drinks here are fairly expensive, this does mean you get a good range of quality wines/champers etc. I went with a Mojito which was freshly made and for £6 I paid for it, it was one of the better Mojito’s I’ve tasted in a long time. The staff were friendly and wold have some small conversation with you which is always nice. I wouldn’t come here all the time, but it is nice if you have something celebrate and recommend it for that.

Cardiff vegetarians take note, the Mimosa bean burger is insanely good. I have a friend who is a notoriously neurotic eater and swore blind that it was fantastic so I had to check it out to satisfy my insane curiosity. Mimosa is understated and chic décor wise but I’m afraid I have to echo the sentiments of my fellow Unilocaler, the staff can be a bit snarky. I assume it’s because they’re protecting the amazing bean burgers or something. I would too, they’re really really really tasty. Did I mention them? The bean burgers? Some places have a tendency to persecute vegetarians and subject them to vile and tasteless burgers but mimosa gets ample gold stars for creating something even the most hardened carnivore would be hard pressed to pick holes in. You get actual homemade chips with it too and it comes all wrapped up in a focaccia. Totally flawless, annoyingly if I ate it all the time I’d probably be morbidly obese but I’m wrestling with the idea that it might be a worthwhile trade off.

Without a doubt one of the better restaurants in Cardiff Bay, Mimosa has an understated yet classy feel. The food is all meticulously presented and the menu is varied. If you’re after a light bite I’d definitely recommend one of the sandwiches or salads. Desire something more substantial? Well you can’t fail with the sea bass which is utter perfection. I should also mention the décor, which is both simple and chic. There is a bar and a rather nice cocktail list, however if it’s just drinks you’re after choose somewhere else. Aside from a few stools, there really is nowhere to sit, and the tables are generally taken up by diners. What really prevents me from giving Mimosa 5*, is that on more than one occasion I’ve found some of the staff to have real attitude problems which is shame for an otherwise good restaurant. However taking all else into consideration I am in no doubt that I will be eating at Mimosa sometime in the near future.

i last went to this place after id finnished workin for 13 hours. i was in need of food and drink i ended up paying alot of money for not much. A case of trying to be trendy. Yes the food is nicly presented, the steak for example i think it was 8 chunky chips piled up like jenga bricks then the steak plonked on top. and that was it. no veg, no anything. apart from mayo for the chips. Just seemed to cost a lot, and maybe if i was in a better mood this would of been ok. But to fair the qaulity is good, and the staff very friendly!

Definitely one of the better restaurants in the Bay area– because Terra Nova is ‘in the way’ you won’t end up with a picturesque view, but in turn that means that there’s less demand so you’re always likely to get a seat. The food is on the expensive side but very high quality, and even the basic food like the beefburgers are nicely presented and come with some little twist that makes you realise why you went there and not to McDonalds One of the best desserts I’ve ever had was at Mimosa– the bannoffee bread & butter pudding. Absolute genius, in fact it’s my two favourite desserts rolled into one. Sadly it was a ‘special’ and they don’t seem to offer it all the time, but if it’s on the menu while you’re there, order it immediately. In fact skip the main course and order that dessert twice.

Not all the eating places in Mermaid Quay are up to much, but Mimosa is well worth a visit. The menu is quite varied and the quality of the food is very good. The staff are always very friendly.
