Top little place to grab supplies for a train picnic or to get dinner on your way home. M&S food is what it is so there is a good range of pre made salads, sandwiches, fruit salads and dinners. This place also has a dairy section for milk, cheese, cream based puddings etc The booze section has the fantastic cans of pre made GnT and cocktails. The beer selection is a bit drab. The wine is a mixed bag. The service can be a bit slow resulting in queues. A back handed compliment to how popular the place is but if you are in a rush for a train … As it is a small place getting up the aisles with wheelie bags can be a bit of a battle

It’s so handy this branch. I was catching a train the other day from here(not the shop but from the platform) and with only 5 minutes to spare and my 7 month old son in my arms I just had enough time to rush in and grab something as long a the queue wasn’t too big. There was a bt of a queue but the staff got through it in no time and before you know it I was on my train munching my triple decker sandwich and cheddar cheese and fancy onion crisps. Ok there are cheaper sandwich shops but they simply not as nice.

I really like M&S food. It is a bit more expensive than your average supermarket but I get a sense of pride when I unload Marks bags from the car rather than bags from Asda! M&S Simply food is just that– Simply food. Please do not go here looking to buy some clothes as you will be hugely disappointed! Marks have a ‘two can dine’ deal on at the moment which is only £10. You get a main, side and dessert for two aswell as a bottle of wine all for a tenner. This is a massive bargain and the food is fab! Please note though that this offer is only on between Thursday and Tuesday!!! One thing I especially like from Marks is their sandwich range. They have a huge and varied variety so there will be something there for everyone!

Alright. So I’m not really the biggest Marks and Sparks fan in the world. I find their whole business model to be incredibly pretentious; they have all the pomposity of Harrods, but without all the cool stuff like the tigers and solid gold slaves and diamonds made out of people who once spoke back to al Fayed that Harrods carries, the pomposity kind of loses its… well, pomp. Instead, Marks and Spencers comes across to me as a guy wearing a(fake) gold watch, telling the girl at the bar that he’s actually really good in bed. I’ve not seen a lot to back up the old M&S reputation, is what I’m getting at. So given my issues with M&S and their prices already, I find it especially abhorrent that Marks and Spencer’s Simply Food at Cardiff Railway Station have the gall to charge even more for the exact same products you can get 5 minutes away on Queen Street because of «higher rent». I’m sorry guys, but the money I pay for a box a chocolates could pay my rent for three months, if I lived in the Hilton, so that excuse doesn’t wash. If you like M&S food, take a walk to Queen Street. It’s cheaper. If you don’t have time, I implore you to skip M&S altogether, and just pack your own food. It’s probably about the same quality as M&S anyway, and they won’t be getting away with obscene prices.

Oh, I was so incredibly happy when this place opened. And I still am. M&S Simply Food is enough happiness for a lifetime. Marks & Sparks stock only their own brand of food and drink. This could be a bad thing in terms of choice, but it’s not. There’s too much choice in the M&S range as it is already. I spend ages every time just staring at the selections of sandwiches and salads. Then another age choosing juice. This store is in an incredibly handy location for anyone who commutes in and out of Cardiff Central, as it’s right there in the station. It’s also great as a place to stop into before going to Vue Cinemas; here you can get healthy and yummy snacks instead of salty cardboard hot dogs. In short; the food here is fantastic, if not cheap. Great for a healthy snack or treat, not so great for stocking up on basic before you head home(although, maybe if you’re on a better wage then me, you’d be alright).

This must be one of the smallest Simply Food stores that M&S have. It is little more than a wide corridor, and a short one at that. It is right next door to the main railway station in the centre of Cardiff. And what a blessing it has turned out to be. The food is fresh and wholesome, and although the prices are not the cheapest, they offer value for money, in that the quality is of the highest order. No more grotty station café food for me. In fact, compared to what you pay once you pass the ticket barrier to board your train, the M&S Food prices are a bargain. I recommend that you buy your sandwiches for the journey here, before you get on that long distance express.
