First of all I really don’t know why this store is not in the centre of Cardiff. If it was in the centre of Cardiff it would be filled day in and day out with all the art students fighting over the last sketchbook and ball of wool. This store has everything for your crafting needs. I have been dragged here many times seeing as my girlfriend is an art student so I tend to look around and play with things whilst she chooses what she needs. If I were a 10 year old kid again my curiosity would have over whelmed me by now, there are so many little things that seem pointless but I’m sure they are useful to someone in some way. I guess why it isn’t in the town centre is because they needed the space. This Hobbycraft is huge! with 2 levels completely filled with all the crafts you art students desire. Like I said, I’m not a massive fan but my girlfriend is and has always commented on how Hobbycraft has everything she’s looking for. Some of the items are pricey but others are at a very good price. If art students could find this place then they will never leave. So make sure you take your cash and get spending on all those crafts.

I get very excited about Hobbycraft. I don’t even do half of the hobbies and crafts that the store caters for, yet I still wander up and down every aisle looking at all the wonderful things they have and wondering what most of them are for. Like most branches, Cardiff Hobbycraft is huge and covers two floors. I can spend hours in there, wishing I had the money to buy everything and the time to make it. As well as art and craft supplies, there is also a great range of gift ideas for children, with loads of child’s art and craft items and kit boxes. It’s just a shame it’s so far away from anywhere, as its location within Capital Retail Park on Leckwith Road means you have to make a special trip to visit, and it’s not somewhere you can just pop into on your way to or from somewhere else. But when you do make the effort to go there, for whatever reason, it is worth it.

Want all of the craft items that you could ever need? Trying to organize a wedding? A birthday? Then this is defiantly, one hundred per cent the shop to come to. This is a lovely crafty shop full of worldly craft goods, every child’s haven of things to spend a day doing. This craft shop is an out of town UK leading retailer. It used to have a range of specialist shops in a market that used to service it. One shop alone of Hobby Craft caters for two hundred and fifty activities. I get lost within a craft shop like this; there is so much to see and to choose from that I lose all sense of time in this shop. I only wish that they had more products on items to craft for Batik drawings. They only have one or two items on Batik craft; I’m not sure what to buy exactly. I recommend it to all craft makers and for all art painters. For children too, or for; people planning a wedding, a party, or most events you’ll find that there are many items you can use for a lot of events.

So this Hobbycraft gives you two floors of everything arty you can think of from standard drawing materials, to specialist model making materials, framing equipment, soft furnishing stuff and lots, lots more. It is a bit of a maze and they really don’t make it easy for you to navigate this store. Apart from one sign by the stairs, they is no signage through the shop and that really annoys me. They obviously want to tempt you to buy other stuff but its so frustrating when your just after something specific. I spend a good 5 minutes walking around the upstairs with no sign of any staff members to help guide me. Eventually I found the section I was after but I was disappointed by how expensive everything was. I took myself to the checkout to pay and the checkout staff were busy chatting so I was barely acknowledged. Good selection but i’d rather get what I need online for cheaper.

I completely understand what Tanya means by not going into this place(or any place like it) if you don’t know what you want because there are so very many options that you’ll just implode. However, that doesn’t mean that it isn’t one of the best places in the world and if you have an afternoon free then it is quite fun to wander around and decide what you would do with all these supplies if you a. had them and b. were one of those arty people able to create anything you set your mind to. The staff are really lovely and you could never compain about the range on offer. Never before did I realise just how much STUFF there was to make things with. I love it. It makes me feel so creative(even if I never actually finish(or start) any of those projects…).

I word of recommendation about going in to Hobbycraft. Please don’t go in if you don’t know what you want to buy beforehand. You need a plan of attack. Head straight to the help desk and then to where they send you with blinkers on. Hobbycraft is a massive warehouse of, well, everything that you could possibly need to any hobby ever. Their problem is certainly not being able to supply us with our needs, but rather, they over supply. You stand in the middle of this store and want to scream: Argh! I know I should be using all these creativity to make something, but I don’t know what! It’s all on overload. That being said, I know people who live in these stores. And yes, their houses are full to bursting with ribbons and gibbons and squibbons and such, but they’re always prepared and kinda nifty with a needle. So, in short. Get in. Get out. Or pay the price. Dun dun duuun.

Much the same as any other Hobbycraft, generally quite expensive, staff who know very little about the products and laid out like a supermarket. Very boring. There are much more interesting Art and Craft shops in Cardiff, I like Inkspot on Newport Road, the staff are very friendly and they have a very good product range.

At last! Hobbycraft has arrived in Cardiff. This is a superb brand new store in the Capital Retail park spread over two floors and packed to the brim with a vast range of art and crafting supplies. The store is really well laid out with a different aisle given over to each crafting activity. Downstairs is full of supplies for knitters, sewing, scrapbooking etc and upstairs you can find paints, easels and model-making supplies. The store is clean bright and airy and there are plenty of staff to help with any enquiries. Tons of parking available and the number 87 bus stops outside the retail park.
