It’s shops like Hera Antiques, Accent On Lighting and Maskreys, amongst a few others on Whitchurch Road, that have been improving this shopping street in recent years. It’s shops of this type that bring some real money into the area, as well as some of the great restaurants that are also based here, like the superb Mint and Mustard a few doors down. I’m not overly keen on some of the things that Hera Antiques stocks,(like the overly fussy figurines for example), but I can appreciate their appeal to others. I’m more interested in the furniture that they carry, and I called in recently to see if they had any bureaus in stock. I have something very particular in mind, and I don’t know if it’s going to be easy to find. Hera Antiques certainly didn’t have what I’m looking for at the moment at least. What I want is a small bureau to fit in a tight space, that is a couple of centimetre’s thinner than any I have managed to find. But I’ll keep on looking until I find one, as this is half the fun! I was really impressed by the range of clocks that Hera had in stock. My Godmother(or Fairy Godmother, as she likes to call herself), collects clocks, and so I’ve acquired a bit of an interest in them through her. It’s not that I’d like as many as she has around the place… I couldn’t put up with the noise, but my appreciation for the mechanisms has increased since she’s explained a few things to me. Did you know that the Dalai Lama mends watches?
