Henry’s

Great place for a few pints of beer after work with colleagues. A good selection of beers and great ambience!

Had a very average experience at Henry’s (went for food). Our waitress seemed very rushed even though the place wasn’t busy, she forgot about a water I ordered, ended up going to the bar to get it myself.
I had the pork belly, which was fine, nice and soft and crispy top, could have done with more flavour though. My partner was having a chicken burger, he was very disappointed, the bun was burnt at the edges, and chips were not good and not hot. Could do better Henry.

I frequently eat in Henry’s before watching a show in the New Theatre nearby and the food and service is usually pretty good. The food is quite typical of what you find in a nice bar and I love the nacho sharer. I’m vegetarian and the selection is pretty limited and the sandwiches expensive for what you get but the food always tastes nice. I like the ambience of the place and I find it a nice place to have a few drinks or a catch-​up with friends without being surrounded by loud, drunken morons. The cocktails are very good. The staff there are always friendly but at busy times service slows down dramatically. It’s worth checking voucher sites because there’s usually a deal running (20% off or £5 off when you spend £10 or more) otherwise the food is quite pricey for what you get. Unlike another reviewer, I’ve always found the toilets to be clean.
I’ve always quite enjoyed my pre-​theatre meal at Henry’s but it’s not somewhere I’d make a real effort to visit otherwise because of the lack of selection for vegetarians.

I went here for food and was shocked at the prices. The tempura chicken starter was overcooked. I complained and it was taken off the bill. I had a steak club sandwich which was nice but not worth the money I paid. Toilets were grubby.

Been here a few times and the service is ok, surrounding nice but tables can be a bit sticky but the main reason this place lets itself down is the menu. The Caesar Salad is labelled as being suitable for vegetarians but it contains parmesan and anchovies. Makes you wonder about the other ‘vegetarian’ dishes.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you’re sick of starting the night in the same old cut-​and-​paste bars that serve 19 colours of J20, all the flavours of WKD and Strongbow and whose major clientele seem to be an unending swarm of Unilocaling 17 year olds with fake IDs proclaiming them to be 37 year old Italian plumbers, then Henry’s should provide a welcome change of place.
I’m assured the cocktails are delicious and fruity and have umbrellas in, but I wouldn’t know about that because I am a Man. And, as a Man, I’m allergic to any drink with more than one colour in it. I’m told the food is wonderful, and it certainly smells that way. But this classy establishment is getting my recommendation for the bar staff’s attentions one evening.
I was with a party of people. We had commandeered half the bar and, as they had started drinking a good two hours before I got there, they were a little bit too much. I adjourned to the bar to drink myself into a similar oblivion and ordered a whiskey. Drank it there. Ordered another, when the barman took an interest. I took this one back to the group, conversed a little and then went to the bar again. Upon opening my mouth to order, the bartender uttered a quiet «shhh» and led me around the side where he opened a special cabinet. Inside, were a bevy of what can only be described as The Good Stuff.
In short, Henry’s does many good whiskeys. Go there if you like the stuff.

Relaxing place in the city centre, can’t say I’ve ever had bad service here. If my wife were writing the review she’d give it 4 stars for the cocktails. Since i’m not cocktail person its 3 for me.
The place does have a up-​scale appearance as Chris mentioned but without the up-​scale price.

Nice, slightly more up-​scale atmosphere pub — but in that way that just about everyone is welcome. Food isn’t as great as it could be, especially considering the price. No particularly exciting beers available. About what one would expect in the city centre.

A classy wine bar offering a good range of cocktails in nice suuroundings. Popular at lunchtimes and evenings due to its handy location so close to twon, the venue offers a nice range of snacks. The décor is relaxed and has nice sofas.
Nice date venue, or ideal venue for drinks with the girls.

I’m probably sentimental about this place, as I used to work there during University, but then I’m also well placed to give the good and the not so good about Henry’s.
The Good
Henry’s has a good reputation for cocktails, and the staff are generally pretty consistent, but there is an element of luck in who serves you. If you get served by the Bar Manager you will certainly be impressed by his speed pouring, knowledge and finesse. The Bar itself has always had a good atmosphere when busy, especially around Xmas time.
Service is generally good, but again varies upon who happens to be your waiter. Sitting on certain tables also makes you less obvious to be spotted
The not so good
When Henry’s is quiet it feels really QUIET, which makes it a good place to relax but perhaps not a great place to warm up for a night out.
I also have to say that the food doesn’t impress me anymore, especially the prices. You could do just as well at Lloyds around the corner in the day time, where you’ll get similar grub at better prices and arguably of better quality. Henry’s is one of those restaurants that are owned by a chain who force them to buy everything in.
Overall
Pricey but pleasant, and definitely worth a look at happy hour (5:30 til 7:30 I think) or on student nights in the week (Mon, Tues, Wed, if you’re a student obviously).
