I’ve never received a smile in this place. In fact it seems like they resent you for having the temerity to try and buy a newspaper here. On one occasion the two people behind the character proceeded to partake in a protracted conversation with an old dear while a small queue developed. They were fully aware of what they were doing and didn’t apologise for the five minutes it took to buy the paper. I wish I followed the woman who dumped her magazine and left. Also when I have passed the shop on the way to work I’ve seen the old guy who works there(who I assume owns the shop) sitting on the papers. This really grinds my gears as I’m the kind of person who carefully folds the paper when I’m reading it. I treat it as a hallowed object. Maybe it’s me who has the problem and I should lighten up by using a broadsheet as a bench more often. The shop appears to close around 5.30pm during the week so isn’t even that convenient. You’d be better off popping down to the Co-op or the Lifestyle Choice for a wider selection and quicker service. They don’t even stock mango Rubicon.

This store is very conveniently located on crwys road and this is always a good place to just pop in and get a paper. Contrary to what others have written I found the staff very friendly and helpful. There is quite a few offers, especially in regards to alcohol for example I went there the other day and a bottle of Pimm’s for only £8 — bargain! Like other newsagents in the area this place is great when the larger stores are closed and if you’re desperate for milk or bread you needn’t despair as its open quite late.

Crwys News; purveyors of delicious cookie treats at reduced prices to make for expanding waistlines, illicit drinks at midnight after the other shops have closed and, occasionally, news. Well, actually never news, despite their best efforts. The amount of hyperbole that goes into their newsboard outside could fuel the Daily Mail headline machine for a year(or me for about ten reviews, apparently). They’re just so excited about all the news they get to talk about! And no one ever buys their newspapers. It’s one of the sadder moments in the world. But they have cornered the market on late night student cravings, which I think more than makes up for the hundreds of newspapers they must throw out at the end of every day. Co-op is all well and good until 8pm, when they shut. And given that most students aren’t operative until 7:30pm, I feel that Co-op are missing a vital slice of the market that Crwys News have scooped up in their stead.

Crwys news is a conveniently located newsagent for the population of Cathays and Roath. Offering a range of confectionaries, basics and newspapers. Outside a stand usually has some news headline about the metropolis of dramatised city goings on, and the place is always busy. They stock a range of food, news & magazines, some alcoholic beverages that are over price as is much of the food but for convenience it’s only a walk away for most Cathays residents.
