Body Basics has occasionally got something in that I really covert. But, being more into hippy chic and retro clothing,(particularly 1950’s style, which is increasingly difficult to come by these days), a lot of the stock here, although beautifully made, and a lot more original than you would find in the chains, still has very limited appeal for me. That is… until they get something in that appeals to my design sensibilities… something inspired by the fifties perhaps… or something that has echoes of the 1920’s… then I can’t get enough of it. The only issue at this juncture is the cost. The clothes here don’t come cheap. But, if it’s originality that you want, as well as really well made garments, and you have an address in Pontcanna… don’t worry about the price tag of that gorgeous summer dress that makes you look two dress sizes smaller, owing to the fact that it’s cut perfectly… just buy it… with an address in Pontcanna, you can afford it!

I’ve bought the odd thing from here — it’s ok but there’s one hell of alot of black! As with all smaller boutiques the option to take something home with you to try on with your shoes etc and check it works and return it if not, isn’t there. I know they haven’t the margins which allow other larger retailers to do this but because of this I’m reluctant to purchase when I could get the same stuff elsewhere but with the ‘take it back if you change your mind’ get-out-clause(actually I buy more from websites such as net-a-porter etc because of this). I think they could do with adding more casual stuff — especially if it’s washable — who can be bothered with all that drycleaning(and when have you ever found a drycleaner which actually cleans without massacring your clobber???) Pleasantish staff who natter very loudly amongst themselves as though they have the most interesting lives in the world and you should be happy to know all about them — tune out and just look at the clothes would be my advice ;)
