Barkways Florist is a great little florist on Whitchurch Road in Heath. They supply quality blooms for any occasion, and offer a really good service. The thing I like about them best is that they buy their flowers from Holland. My mother and younger brother live out their and so I’ve got strong ties with the country.
I was over in Leiden for my mothers birthday in March last year, and my brother and I embarked on a serious present buying expedition that concluded in a florist. We ordered a ready-​made bouquet, (we had left everything to the last minute), and went to the counter to pay, placing the enormous display of flowers, replete with a large glass vase, and gift wrapping, on the counter. I nearly fell over when the person serving us keyed the cost into the till. I was shocked!
Incredulously I turned to my brother and asked him a question; «surely that can’t be right?’ I demanded, and he just turned to me, smiling, and nodded.
Twenty six euro’s became something of a mantra during the rest of my stay. I took to repeating it out loud at intervals every time I thought of the inordinately large bunch of flowers that were gracing my mothers dining room table, (and obscuring much of the light coming through the window!) Something like that would cost over a hundred pounds over here!

This is a smart little florist sourcing its flowers from Holland, and staff there go out of way to get your arrangement just right.
As you’d expect, they cater for all occasions. They can dress a hotel for a wedding reception, decorate a marquee for your celebration, and design beautiful buttonholes for your wedding, working with ideas you already have — or coming up with ideas for you if you’re stuck.
Depending on the season and the type and duration of the event, they know what type of flowers will hold up to the rigours of the day — and can avoid those that will die in the wrong conditions.

My friend got her wedding flowers from Barkways last year and they gave an amazing service right through. She had something quite specific in mind and they listened to her requests, came up with some really cool ideas.
They really knew their stuff and also helped her to find ways to keep the costs down. Everything on the day looked perfect and they still looked fresh at the end of the night. Luckily I got to take some home!
