Agree with the above review but it can work on the reverse, sometimes if things are out of stock in the busier stores this one will have them. Staff are touch and go but was in there last week looking for wallpaper and the two members of staff(john and Josh) that helped me were fantastic so for someone like me that appreciates good customer service I like this store. It’s a DIY store. Hardware. It’s just a bunch of inanimate objects that sit there on the shelves. Even worse, it’s a bunch of inanimate objects that just sit there on the shelves not even being THINGS yet! You have to build stuff with them. And not even fun stuff, like Power Rangers. No. Instead, it’s rubbish stuff like shelves and benches. It’s like the absolute polar opposite of Toys ‘r’ Us. So it was a pretty fatal sign that I’m slowly becoming my father when I realised I actually get really excited when I’m going to B&Q. I’m not sure when it happened, but at some point between the ages of 19 and 23, I started getting excited about the idea of tools. Perhaps it’s just something every man goes through at some point in his life; like a second puberty. Regardless of how it occurred, the fact is that now I gladly skip through the aisles of hardware stores, looking at brackets and dowels with a wise and knowing look in my eye. I even write for a DIY magazine now! So going to this B&Q is like breaking into Santa’s workshop and finding the whole place deserted except for a box of cookies piled high on a mountain of LEGO and Transformers. The range is huge, the store is magnificent and everyone is at least knowledgeable about their department to an extent. If you’re looking for hardware, you could do a lot worse.

There are not many DIY stores that I would ever say I consider myself a fan of, but this is one of them. This particular branch of B&Q is quite an exciting and inspirational experience. They have massive lighting section, which, although perhaps not on a par with the like of Litecraft, has some really lovely options(and is a good place to hide when it’s –9 degrees outside). They also have some great wallpaper and paint options, and, most importantly, they have one of those magical paint-colour-mixer-things. Further to the back of the store you leave behind all those cosy fittings, like taps and doorknobs(pretty), and find yourself in a giant’s world of wood and fertilizer. This store is particularly good for its garden equipment; I can actually think of nowhere better in Cardiff to come for this type of thing. For all your gardening needs, and wants. As Christmas time they do a lovely selection of Norwegian Spruce(it’s all about the Norwegian Spruce). If you need a hardware, home decorating and garden store, then this is the place to come. And you’ll get a little bit of inspiration along the way instead of just hammer and nails.

Not too bad — can pick up some good bargains but its worth going the extra distance to go into the Warehouse as it has more variety and stock.
