I recently found myself in Canterbury for a few days, and I ended up eating here three times. The restaurant was clean and cozy, the staff was extremely friendly and competent, and the food was great. There were a number of good vegetarian options, and prices seemed reasonable given the quality and overall dining experience. Yes, it’s a chain, but it’s a good one.
Now that I’m back in the US, I find myself wishing there were a Café Rouge like this one nearby. It’s not especially fancy or trendy, it was just very good and simple. Although I liked everything I tried, my personal favorite was the champignons a l’ail (mushrooms on toast, basically). I’m not sure if all Café Rouge locations are as good as this one, but I’ll definitely be checking out others in the future.

I was looking for a place to have lunch with my kids and I was pleasantly surprised. We were not looking for anything complicated; we had 3 mixed salads which were very fresh and varied and then 3 sirloin steaks which were grilled, perfectly cooked, juicy and tasty. The bill came to about 60 pounds drinks included. I would definitely go back and try some of their other dishes. The service was fast and friendly.

Il faudrait être stupide, pour visiter l’Angleterre, et allez manger dans une chaîné de resto, dont le thème est La France .
Sinon, je me suis retrouvé un peu obligé d’y aller, le cadre est sympa, mais c’est une caricature de café français à la Walt Disney .
le service est excellent, le café trés bon, la cuisine, franchement on mange mieux et pour beaucoup moins cher autour de cet établissement.

I usually eat in Café Rouge when I visit Canterbury; however just recently we have had quite a long wait for lunch, even when the restaurant does not appear particularly busy. Also they need to work out the difference between al dente and raw vegetables as the green beans were hardly cooked at all. Having said that, the food is generally well cooked, well presented, consistent and good value for money and the staff very pleasant and attentive.

Great sized restaurant with outdoor seating and two levels inside. Great menu choice. Can be busy but worth waiting for. Friendly staff. Great food. Toilets a bit of a trek but clean.

This is part of a chain so its pretty much the same as any other café rouge you may have visited. The foods good but i find it just seems pricey for a chain? maybe i’m tight i don’t know. I just know that down the road i can get a larger steak for not as much money for the smaller one here. If you’re looking for a quick meal however, you will get it. They are quick and efficient. Cannot deny it.
