I was a bit of a geek at high school and sixth form. Oh, and in uni. OK I still am a geek. I remember that there was an in-store set by some band at Vibes, the record store, which was a ten minute run into the centre of town from our college. I wagged the occasional lesson but I remember on this occasion I went back with one other girl, left my CD to be signed whilst the rest of my friends stayed for the gig. In my defence I don’t think any of them actually had lessons that afternoon. But I was a bit gutted since we’d queued up, got inside the doors and were squashed in ready for the band to appear. Everybody looked at me like I was insane as I left before the music had started. Went in again today to have a browse. They always have something good playing but it was empty. They have a few magazines including The Fly, which is free and loads of CDs as you would expect. Not so many records — one which I asked about wasn’t there even though it had just been released but I could order it and wait ten days. Hmm. Not ideal in the see it, want it, grab it days that the recession hasn’t cured…
