I like a fish bar that doesn’t smell fishy. This one smells of the sea and there is a distinct difference. In fact, one of my pet hates is cooking sardines on toast at home; it tastes good once in a while but the house stinks for a fortnight. Maybe the key is in the freshness and I guess my little sardines packed tightly in a tin that is Best Before 2023 are perhaps not as fresh as the cod at metro which was possibly still swimming this morning. This is a posh Harry Ramsdens: there is a takeaway at the front and restaurant at the back of the building. The feeling is a split personality of a fish and chip supper with a refined afternoon tea because there are huge glass cabinets stocked with yummy cakes on display as you dine. Not your standard accompaniment for fish and chips but it works here. The service is quick and efficient, even on a busy Friday night. I had the Metro Fish and Chips and yes it was great. It cost £8 and this was good quality fish. The couple on the other table had the steak and kidney pudding and this really got my goat. I know restaurants cater for all preferences but this is a FISHBAR people. Take a risk and TRYTHEFISH! Metro has a little continental side and sells moules frites but like I said, this is a place where you should go to to keep it traditional. Fish and chips every time.

Unfortunately I have to DISAGREE with both the previous comments. I have dined at Metro many times and have ALWAYS found the food/service & ambience to be top class!!! The main problem I found was the lack of parking due to how busy this diner is, but then again I would rather find a place to park and know I am getting quality service, than have my choice of parking spaces due to poor attendance. Just me, but hey, if its not broken, why fix it!!! Thank you to the chef and his staff. A+
