Tutbury Fryer

Set at the top end of High Street in Tutbury, Ye Olde Tutbury Fryer is your classic local fish and chip shop, popular, with a good range of different foods. Its primary business is fish and chips, haddock, cod, fishcakes etc. However, there are lots of other delights on offer too — chicken, kebabs, burgers and not forgetting Pukka Pies, the mark of a good chip shop! Though tempted by the burgers, some of which had interesting names like ‘Jaw Breaker’, I was ordering for five people, as we were having a leaving-​do just down the road at the micro pub ‘The Cask & Pottle’. Pizzas seemed a logical choice, two sizes on offer –10 and 12 inch and a good variety of choices, including Mexican Hot and Farmhouse. We plumped for ham and mushroom, and the Tutbury Special — salami, pepperoni, ham, mushroom and sweetcorn. Both very tasty, generously topped too, the portion of chips we had with them made for a good accompaniment too. The pizzas were made fresh while we waited and the staff couldn’t have been more friendly, I was impressed.
