Basil’s gimmick is 50% off all food, all the time (their website lists the post-​discount prices). This means you can get a damn fine meal (main+drink) for a tenner and change. The only exception to this rule of thumb is if you’re going for a steak, which is going to run you closer to fifteen quid. For a (delicious, well-​cooked) steak. Bonkers.
The menu is incredibly broad, and almost all of it is very good (avoid the overpriced Black & White and you’re golden). The highlight is almost certainly the meatballs, which come as 10, 15 or 20 beefspheres. Beware, 20 can be challenging for those not strong of stomach.
Basil has long been a regular lunchtime expedition at my place of work and I don’t doubt it will continue to be for a long time. If I could take any restaurant with me anywhere I go, it would be Basil. Basil Basil Basil. Basil!

I expect to be back a few more times, as this is a regular destination for my gent.
The menu here is varied – meatballs, several kinds of steaks, pizzas, pastas, salads. The steaks are half price apparently all the time and, while mine was slightly more cooked than I expected for medium rare, it was a good piece of meat. We took advantage of the nice selection of wines and split a cocktail.
Décor was interesting with a projection of flames on the beaded curtain between the dining room and the pizza oven.
Overall, very good value for money!
