Free entry and cheap drinks. I don’t think any one can ask for more on a night out. It is located near the top of the Park Street and the steep climb to get to it, yes, is, definitely worth it. The music ranges from Latino to Mediterranean to popular chart busters. Oh, yes, they have a foam sprayer as well. There are two floors to put your dancing shoes on. The plus point of this night club? Is definitely it’s Security Staff. They just don’t considerate any sort of nuisance. So, if you are planning a trouble free night out, Yia Mass is your place!

I cannot tell you the amount of times i’ve been to Yia mass, Friday night being one of them! Me and my indecisive friends tend to always lean towards yia mas its always a great night esp if you are trying to please various tastes. Don’t go on a Saturday, literally. Friday is the best night, Go on a Saturday and you won’t get in. It’s THAT busy, its shoulder to shoulder. The music is usually pretty good, a random mix of dance, old pop, cheese, dub… anything really! You can be booty shaking one minute then whipping out the robot the next… i speak from experience :) The drinks aren’t too expensive at £5 for a double vodka and red bull. It’s open till late like 4 am and without sounding out of turn, there are usually very attractive people in there. Bonus! It’s really great for taxi’s being right on park street and buses etc so getting home is always easy. The only reason i’m deducting a star is the smoke machine, the foam machine and the sodding glitter. It’s an adults bar, please keep that stuff in 1999 where it belongs i beg you! Cheapens the place a bit and it’s not fun waking up in the morning looking like tinker bell gone wild. Apart from that, get your party frock on & dancing shoes :)

For a lively evening out with decent food, free-flowing drink and perhaps even a spot of Greek dancing, the carefree atmosphere of Yia Mass on Park Street is hard to beat. This restaurant-bar plays crazy Eurovision-style music in surroundings that have a firmly Mediterranean influence, giving you that holiday feeling. The restaurant is across two levels, with a bar downstairs and further restaurant seating in a mezzanine area above the bar. Despite the slightly cheesy nature of this place, the food is actually really good, offering Greek mezze style dishes that are perfect to share with friends. The staff seem to be enjoying themselves almost as much as the customers, which adds to the atmosphere. This place is definitely one to enjoy a night out with your mates, with a bite to eat and plenty of ouzo — but not so highly recommended for a romantic meal for two.

Yia Mass is regrettably no longer serving the decent Greek food it once did. Instead it has given itself over to the Eurotrash sleaze for which it was increasingly becoming famed. Not that that’s a lament — for me, of all of Park Street’s dens of guilty pleasures, Yia Mass is one of the most enjoyable. The music is unabashedly cheesy, with Europop the genre of choice. It conjures up memories of ill-remembered holidays abroad and good times all round. The faintly Greek inspired décor is strange and elaborate, contributing all the more to the bar’s wacky atmosphere. For somewhere so mainstream it boasts sufficient quirky touches to give the venue real character. If you’re drunk, up for a dance and too far overdrawn to contemplate an easyjet flight somewhere sunny, it’s definitely all about Yia Mass.

This was the default bar for my friends and me when we were students here. It has a great, laid back continental feel to it, the wine is cheap, and you can get great Greek nibbles to share. I like the candle-lit tables on the upper level, and the big tables make it a good place for groups. My only quibble about the place is how loud the music gets. It’s clearly a bar and restaurant, not a club, so I just don’t understand why it has to blast the music out at a volume that completely obliterates conversation. I’m a bit grumpy when it comes to music in bars, though, and many people don’t care at all if they have to shout to each other. I’d definitely come here for dinner and drinks rather than just drinks later in the evening, purely because of the irritating music situation.

Having a half-Cypriot husband means any Greek restaurant we frequent is facing a tall order if it hopes to meet his approval. You just can’t beat my mother-in-law’s home cooking and so many eateries we have visited in Bristol, Cardiff, London and even Greece have simply failed to measure up. However, Yia Mass did win rare praise when we visited it. It’s not the greatest locale for a romantic meal as the vibe here at the weekends is manic and boisterous. However, we went for my friend’s hag do and it was brilliant fun. The waiters really enjoy themselves, shots of Ouso were flowing and everybody was dancing on the tables. Before the lethal spirits took hold, I recall the food being excellent in quality, if a little expensive. And the décor inside is really authentic and fun. This is a great place to go with a group to enjoy an expertly cooked mezze and laugh heartily.

If you’re looking for a taste of the Mediterranean, head over to Yia Mass on Park Street for a truly Greek experience. This split level restaurant has a bar on the bottom floor and seating on the upper level. It can get a little cramped, so it’s not great if you’re looking for an intimate romantic evening with a loved one. The atmosphere is fun, friendly and lively which makes it more than a meal, and more of an experience. Even though I hear their meat dishes are fantastic, so are their vegetable plates so it’s bound to please the fussiest of eaters.

This is the sort of place that find yourself in late on a Friday or Satuirday night when you’ve had a few too many and you’re looking for just about anywhere that’ll serve alcohol. It’s on Park Street, so whether you’re heading up or down the hill, you’ll hear their odd latin-influenced music over more dance-orientated stuff, see lots of people outside smoking, peer in the window and think ‘bloody hell this place is packed’. So you step inside with a bunch of mates, order a drink at the bar, find out that there are no tables left in the tiny establishment and that it’s difficult to talk with the pumping music, stand around a bit but realise you’re in everyone else’s way, drink up and leave. Well, at least that was my experience of Yia Mass. I guess it’d be better to try it out on a weekday to get the full flavour, or turn up early to get a better spot that you can hang onto. Meh.

Yiamass is a bar that I have visited only at night time therefore I cannot comment/rate on the food or day time service. The interior is really interesting, with a bit of African jungle meets Grecian feel to it. There is a small dance floor and a couple of tables, so my best bet is to head upstairs to the low ceiling seating area. Here you can enjoy a drink with friends without the music deafening your ears. The prices are a tad expensive, however they do a mean Mojito(not for the faint hearted!!)

I haven’t the foggiest idea why, but for some reason whenever I’m out in town on a Friday or Saturday night I usually go into this late night bar at some point in the evening. I’m not saying that because it’s bad, it’s more to do with how odd it is. From the outside it looks like it might be a Mediterranean restaurant and apparently it serves Greek food. I wouldn’t know as I’ve only ever been here at the weekend post about 9 o’clock, and it most definitely doesn’t serve food then. As you enter, you feel as though you’ve been transported a few hundred miles to a late night bar on the continent. There are garish, brightly coloured murals on the walls and a DJ pumping out an odd mix of pop songs and retro hits(very much like what you can expect to hear when you’re abroad). This place is a lot of fun, if a little unusual.

Homophobic hell-hole: My friends and I were hoping to have a great night out here we entered the club and the music was loud and there was plenty of dancing. We bought drinks(pricey, but perhaps the going rate for a club on Park Street). We were just thinking of hitting the dance floor when the club owner(a bald man who the bouncers tell me is called John) came over and told my friends to stop cuddling. He said it wasn’t a gay bar. I was surprised he had even noticed as they had just had a little cuddle and a quick kiss. He said that kissing was allowed in his club, but only between members of the same sex, because girls kissing girls was not normal. He said he didn’t mind gay people dancing in his club, but didn’t want anyone kissing as it was a family run business. Needless to say we left and walked to Mr Wolfs where we had a wonderful night.
