Very good dim sum – highly recommended, although only available before 4.30pm. Better than a la carte hot dishes.

Dim Sum as good some some Chinese restaurants in Hong Kong, only this place has better service!

We have visited Watersky twice and been very pleased both times. We ate from the all you can eat buffet both times and were able to order as much as we liked from the menu and was delivered to our table. I thought the menu didn’t have a bad choice of dishes, but a few more familiar dishes would have been good, but is a good chance to try something new. The staff were good and friendly. One of the waitresses remembered us from our first visit four months earlier when we took our children, who were very welcome in the restaurant, so that was nice(I hope!) We did get forgotten once when we ordered duck for our second course and it took a bit longer than normal to reach us, but this wasn’t really a problem as gave us more room for the main! The portions are fairly small but they will willingly get you another helping. All the food was delicious, especially the starters, which you can choose and have as much as you like. The only downside, the drinks were a little expensive, but if you only pay £15 ish per person for as much food as you can eat, one can’t really complain. Would eat here again and recommend it.

It was my first time to the new location for Wai Yee Hong Chinese grocers, but I was here for the food upstairs in the huge Chinese restaurant. As Pollita M. points out the design is a large banquet hall like you’d find in a large hotel, complete with chandelier. And if you compare prices of such an establishment you’d disagree with her about the prices. 3 – 4 people could easily do dim sum for 45 – 50 quid which is a deal in such plush setting. Granted we’re talking about an industrial estate in St. Werburghs, but you’d never know it once you get up those stairs! Now, back to the important stuff — the food. Go when dim sum will be the freshest, i.e. on a Sunday brunch/lunch time. Surprisingly it didn’t get busy until 12.30pm. In London it would be packed if you didn’t grab a table by 11ish. We ordered the pan-fried turnip cake, cheung fun, various dumplings, one-pot rice with spare ribs and chicken feet(!). It was all good and the peanut dumpling was outstanding. Service is very efficient with the teapot being refilled 3 – 4 times with hot water. I’d definitely come back here as it’s not too far and Water Sky is a very ambitious venue for Bristol and its Chinese community.

This place is the real deal; the Chinese restaurant that Chinese people go to(well, it’s either Water Sky, or Mayflower, but the latter has become a bit hit and miss in terms of quality of late). Order any of the ‘real’ Chinese dishes, such as kai lan, lotus root, stewed lamb hot pot, steamed fish, and you will be richly rewarded with freshly-cooked, perfectly seasoned food. The roast duck is as good as any found in Hong Kong. Made freshly every day, they are only cut after cooling down, so that the meat retains all its juicy flavours. Served with a delicious sweet and sour plum sauce. The restaurant has a Chinese-banquet vibe. Light, bright and full of bling. The loos are something to behold! Waiting staff are all very well turned out in golden waistcoats and are very professional, although a little over-attentive if you are one of the first tables of the day.

The décor at Watersky is wonderful in a kitsch sort of way, but the food and service were grim when we attended the cavernous and almost empty upper floor restaurant today. Where to begin? Being told that members of our party who chose the buffet wouldn’t be allowed to share any food with people eating Dim Sum got us off to a bad start. To avoid this we went for the a la carte. Service was perfunctory and disorganised. Soft shell crab, at £5.95 a piece and which is wonderful at places like Haozan in London, was flabby and tasted of flour; sweet and sour pork was exactly the same as the Tesco version. The drunk chicken I ordered was unavailable and the waitress suggested a house specialty — roast duck. It came suspiciously quickly — warm and greasy skinned. The only thing with any interest was a Singapore noodles. Unbearable and embarrassing, we left as soon as we could. Perhaps the head chef ran away with the house manager last week; perhaps there is a parallel universe where this is the Best chinese restaurant in Europe. But I’ll never know.

This restaurant has always fascinated me as it is situated on the top floor of an Oriental shopping centre on a somewhat industrial site. I had heard good things and as it is really popular with Chinese people, I thought that would be a good indication of the standard. However, when I visited, I was a little disappointed by the soulless nature of this huge venue. It could easily seat hundreds and there are dozens of staff all bizarrely communicating with each other via ear-piece radios. Yes the menu is incredibly varied– with dim sum, all-you-can eat, and a huge a la carte menu, but I found it a little over-priced for the standard of what was served. And the atmosphere was completely dead. I haven’t been back since then, but reading Mark’s review, maybe it is worth another visit, just to make sure.

I’m not sure if this is a good rule of thumb, but from my experience it is a fairly good gage of the authenticity and quality of a restaurant serving a world cuisine. What am I talking about? I’m talking about the amount of people eating in that establishment who look like they are from the region of the world the food came from. This is very much the case in point with Watersky in Eastville. This is a large opulent restaurant that serves arguably the best Chinese food in Bristol. Despite it’s size, it is always very busy and filled with large groups of Chinese people eating and seemingly enjoying the tastes of home. If my own taste bud weren’t enough of a convincer that I was in the best Chinese restaurant in Bristol, I need only look around at the vast numbers of people who would surely testify to that claim.

My family and I have been here a number of times and this is a great place to eat and hang out. The staff are very friendly and helpful — very family friendly. The food is top notch — very delicious, and the surroundings are suitably plush and clean. There’s even a car park with plenty of free parking.

This is the best Chinese restaurant Bristol has ever had. It’s large, opulent and the service is on the whole, excellent. It gets really busy on Sundays as many chinese people go out for lunch together as a family then. The only downside is that you cannot book a table on a sunday, you just have to turn up and hope that there is a table or you won’t have to wait too long. The longest we’ve had to wait is an hour, but generally a table is available quicker than that. The food is very tasty, and I think both Chinese and English people would enjoy it(I’m half of both and I like it!) I believe they also offer a take away service.
