I don’t actually mind the Wackum. Given its location in the depths of Whitehall, I don’t think it’s too bad a place. It is a sports pub and I tend to have misgivings about that particular brand of watering hole, but I’ve gone down here to watch the occasional game of footy with a couple of friends and the atmosphere is pretty much spot on. The staff are very friendly, as are the punters and the beer is the right price. They also serve food — think along Wetherspoons lines — which really isn’t too bad considering it’s cheap as, ahem, chips.

If Sky Sports is your bag, and football is what you live and die for(especially if you have a pint in your hand at the time), Wackum might be for you. The appalling pun of a name can just about be excused when you realise this is marketed purely as a sports bar and shows every games of cricket, footie annd rugby possible to attract the sporty punter. Interesting historical fact: the Victorian miners who mined in Easton often used to drink here, although little remains of the Victorian architecture in terms of internal features these days. Still frequented by working me(builders and plumbers etc tend to hand out here an a regular basis) and the beers are just as refreshing as I’m sure they ever were. Straightforward and no nonsense rather like its clientele.
