This cheese shop is very good indeed. Located in St Nicks market, this cheese shop has been here since I’ve moved to Bristol some years ago and I do a little smile when I walk past. It’s just great; from the friendly staff who are happy to help you about what cheese you need, to the selection of cheese itself, lovely glorious cheese.(Can you tell I like cheese?) There are lots to try here, prices are definitely on the pricey side, but what you get in return is probably worth it. I bought a strange goats cheese to carry back to Malaysia with me last year as a gift for my dad(also a cheese fan). It was called Tymsboro, a goats cheese covered in mould, and I just remember how friendly the staff was; letting me sample loads of cheeses before I settled on this one. They do toasties and raclettes too during lunch times, which are tasty indeed. Most certainly unlike any toastie I’ve ever had before! If you’re here and peckish for some cheese filled goodness, you’ve got to try it.

Cheese is a kind of meat, a tasty yellow beef! I also go a bit wrong when I’m surrounded by cheese and this little dairy shop is no exception. The cheese here is just gloriously good, creamy, gorgeous, decadent and makes you feel a bit special! Cheese from here, some crackers a fine bottle of oaky red and I feel like I have found a small pathway to heaven! On top of that, the staff here are incredibly nice and helpful, although I have generally noticed that people who are mad about cheese are generally sound people :-) They also sell an incredibly good brown sauce here that goes fantastically with sausages. Very deserving of 5 stars.

From time to time I have been asked what I would choose should I be stranded on a desert island and only allowed one food. Most islands being rife with fruit and fish I would probably choose cheese. I absolutely love the stuff. I love the smell, the taste, the history of making it, the process — all of it! As one can then imagine living in Bristol with Trethowan Cheese Maker and Monger just down the road, my cheese lust is often satiated. As well as a very good range of deliciously rich and creamy cheeses at this stall in St Nicholas’s Market, there’s also a wealth of information on offer. Any queries about the traditional style of cheese production can be answered here along with a few tasters and nibblers of course! They’re not just a mongers, they’re keen to stress, because they also sell the Gorwydd Caerphily. This is very much a Welsh word and one I don’t understand. It looks a bit like the rind and is very very delicious. If cheese would be your desert island choice or not, this shop is worth the trip.
