If ever I need any canvases or paints for those rare motivated moments when I decide to paint a picture, Works is always my first port of call. The canvasses will set you back a mere £3-£8 and the paints, pallets and brushes about the same. But I never leave Works with ‘just what I went in for’. I usually end up with a random selection of stuff, from cookery books and thank you cards to batteries and DVDs. This Works is quite good at putting relevant stuff out the front, so at Christmas it was bags of fir cones for a few quid and in the run up to St George’s Day, a load George Cross merchandise, including flags and hats. Not really my bag, but I’m sure sales did quite well that week! This store is also apt at putting the most interesting stuff in the window — a Pret cookbook for a fiver anyone? Or a great value AA roadmap for £2. Yes please.
