Great cocktails. Before 8 pm, you can also buy one and get another cocktail for free. Great deal! The guy who works here also takes so much effort into one drink. It’s really fun and interesting to watch. I woe go again!

I used to work in a bar in Bristol, and we decided to go here one evening after work. This place is just off Park Street, and so is really convenient and a good alternative to the clubs around, as it’s open really late(i’ve heard whispers of until 6am, but I can’t vouch for that). It’s a pretty cool crowd, with equally trendy bar staff serving up unusual cocktails. The music is a quite eclectic mix, which is always a winner for me. There was no cover charge, and the queue to get in was minimal. Not a ‘must go’ place for every night out, but a nice place all the same. Not sure if it’s open in the day, but the décor makes me want to go there for a sunday roast. Odd but true.

Took a girl for a date there and it was perfect — just the right amount of quirkiness and a superb selection of drinks — but the buy one get one free cocktails before 8 is dangerous! :-) Thoroughly recommend it, nice to find somewhere a bit different and the staff were brilliant, really helpful and very knowledgeable team. Apparently they now do a quiz as well so will be heading there soon! The manager has always been happy to help as well, I went there with a whisky loving friend and was very pleased that all questions were easily answered — my friend was impressed too!

I like coming in here mostly for the décor and the laid back attitude of the staff. They do try and replicate the essence of being in the woods, and if that is lots of huge dead bugs and deer antlers and skulls. then it does it perfectly! It isn’t as creepy a picture as I’m painting it by the way, it is lovely and those little touches really add to the atmosphere here. I love it that the staff have a very ‘i dont give a honk’ attitude, and mostly seem as tipsy as the people that come in here to have a drink. There is a really nice beer garden out back, that’s always lighted up with fairy lights. There is an upstairs too; with more chesterfield-esque couches, great for stepping away with the drunker folk on the ground floor. One thing I don’t understand though, is they sometimes use bouncers to stop people from going in, and form a queue, but you can clearly see through the windows that it isn’t full at all inside! Maybe it keeps the anticipation going. All in all, a great pub smack in the middle of town!

If you like whisky, you’ll love this place. Aside from the cute garden out the back, the antique fabric covered furniture and the dead insects on the walls this is a great bar with something different to offer. The range of spirits behind the bar is extensive, particularly the numerous scotch, single malt and blended malts on offer. If you’re serious about your scotch then The Woods have even put together a monthly whisky club were you can go along and spend a couple of hours learning about various brands and of course having plenty of samples to try too. To attend you can either pay for a one off evening or pay for an annual subscription, which is what I choose to do when trying to find the perfect present for a whisky loving friend. For around £20 you can attend these monthly sessions and as each one guarantees at least four or five samples you’ll easily make your money back after a couple of months. If you work in a bar you can get a discount on this price too.

ITISALWAYSSOLOUDINHERE, YOUHAVETOSHOUT! Sorry about that, I know that is usually the uncoolest thing to say, but it is not a club, it is a pub and loud music does not mean better atmosphere. I want to chat to my mates, that’s usually why I go out with them, sometimes. Despite this it is a great pub and decorated to look like a wood cabin/hunters lodge and it really works. It has a lovely little outside area for the smokers, tokers and jamokers and an upstairs section with a balcony that looks down onto the rest of the pub. You feel like you’re in a very rich, eccentric person’s house. The bar is great, with the ‘biggest selection of whisky’ in Bristol apparently, which ties in with the style of the place. The poor bar staff do usually look like they need a good night’s sleep though, maybe because this place stays open until 6 am on Saturdays night(so Sunday mornings) and 4 am on Friday nights(so Saturday mornings) making The Woods the best and only place to carry on drinking when you really should of thrown in the towel after the last round of tequilas that you can’t really afford.

With its ornate décor, excellent cocktails and pleasant outdoor seating area, The Woods is one of the finest bars in Bristol. The interior is theatrically decorated with antlers, chandeliers and framed dead beatles. The weekend atmosphere is lively indeed, with good tunes blasting all night long. The cocktails don’t come cheap but the quality makes them worth the money. There’s a second floor upstairs which can be hired out for private parties. It’s one of the few tasteful bars in Bristol which stays open all night, perfect for grabbing a late-night(or early morning) drink.

I want to start by saying this is a good place if you want to go to a pub that’s a bit different from all the rest, because this place is pretty alternative to your standard pub! The interior is the funniest thing, all their furniture resembles old style home furniture — they have old beds made into seats, old style armchairs, those homely lamps etc. It actually works well though and is pretty funky! To add to this quirky vibe, they don’t sell standard pints and you either have to buy a half pint or a jug(around 2 pints), which can actually be quite annoying if all you want is a pint! The bar gets pretty busy, so you don’t want to have to keep going back and forth. As for prices, they are fairly expensive — so for those on a budget, maybe not the place you want to spend a whole evening, but one drink is probably worth it for a bit of a change of scenery! The Woods is a quirky little place that’s worth checking out.

I went mad for this bar when it first opened. It has a laid-back charm which makes it a great place to quaff cocktails with mates. The décor is decayed grandeur with mis-matched gilt picture frames, chandeliers and stags heads. But the well-stocked bar is its best selling point and the staff are very dedicated to making good drinks even if it is at the expense of swift service. My mate once asked for an old-fashioned(which apparently needs to be stirred a specific number of times to be drinkable) and the barman spent ages preparing it to be just right and took a lot of pride in it. They do really great happy hours here which are worth rocking up for. The only real drawback is the toilets which have a drainage system that can sometimes stink the whole downstairs of the bar out. But you can escape to the lovely heated garden at the back if it all gets too much. The Woods can get mobbed by students on specific nights which makes it less pleasant but it’s always open late so is a good spot to wind up an evening.

The Woods is an excellent bar, with a vast selection of whiskey and cocktails. Selling two pint jugs, cocktails that are delicately prepared, and most spirits you could ever dream of, The Woods is subtly exquisite, with a distinctive interior design to set this bar apart from mainstream clubs and bars along Park Street. Upon entering The Woods, your imagination will be intrigued by the various animal heads, antlers, tropical and unusual large insects in wooden frames, with elegant chandeliers, leather sofas and a large bar with what looks like hundreds of spirits to welcome you — and this is just the ground floor. The Woods boasts a large designated smoking area, with outdoor heaters, umbrella shelters, plenty of seating and colourful green and red lighting to offer drinkers a safe and extremely comfortable setting. A staircase near the entrance leads to a relaxing seating area, with quieter music, and the artistic décor continues throughout. Interesting artwork on the walls, with delicate lampshades and uniquely made furnishing allows guests to drink, converse and soak up the elegant surroundings that The Woods offers. The interior and exterior design is not the only incentive to pay The Woods a visit or three. The drink prices are fairly reasonable, if a little pricey for cocktails, and The Woods is open some nights until 6am. This opens a wide demographic of guests, attracting an eclectic group of drinkers. This bar is not a dancing venue, and is best suited for professional or mature students looking to wind down with a drink until the early hours of the morning.

The Woods is does not feel like any other bar/pub I have ever been to. The inside décor is bizarre yet homely but its universal selling point that I’m surprised has been barely touched upon is its wondrous beer garden that looks like it was ripped straight out of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The purple and green fairy lights and trees(thus the name ‘the Woods’) give the garden a magical atmosphere that is hard to put into words. It certainly goes some way to justifying the obscene drink prices. I would recommend visiting The Woods before you hit Dojo as the comparatively luxurious furnishings contrast heavily with the filth that you are about to witness!

A really nice alternative to what else is on offer on Park Street. It is a little hard to find if you don’t know the area well but once found it is really lovely. There is a sense of ‘Jack Wills’ about it with the stuffed animals on the wall and the old English atmosphere. We visited on a Friday night and it was crammed full. In fact we were initially told it was full and we had to go away(something that is a first in a pub for me — they are rarely full enough!) however after a couple of people left we were allowed in. It took an age to order anything and it was expensive. However, I am sure it would be a more pleasant experience had we visited a tad earlier or on another day. The selection of whiskies is the best I have ever seen(then again I don’t touch the stuff so I wouldn’t really know!)

The Woods can be found just off of Park Street and is the sister bar to Elbow Street just slightly down the way. If the Elbow Room was going through puberty, drunk and passed out on the floor, The Woods has grown up, got a job and developed a taste for whisky and fine wines. This late night drinking venue is a victim of its own success and is often packed to the rafters will drunken revellers and city boys. It is a little on the pricey side, but I always find it worth the money considering what the other, unholy options are. Head upstairs if you’re looking for a more relaxing atmosphere with your beer.

The Woods is a late night bar just off Park Street which means it can get very busy and on a few occasions I’ve been turned away because it’s simply fit to burst inside. It’s a great place to go to if you want to get out of some terrible club, but still fancy a drink somewhere. It is split into levels with a smallish but welcoming beer garden to the rear. The décor is a little quirky with dead bugs in jars and deer heads on the walls downstairs and an odd higgledy-piggledy mix of sofa’s, chairs and standing lampshades upstairs. The upstairs area can be a welcome haven for people wanting to avoid the crush downstairs and you could easily spend 3 or 4 hours there, as it sort of feels like your sitting in a living room. The draft beer is somewhat limited and a tad pricey, but their bottled beer range is fairly extensive and they also have a wide selection of whiskeys.

This is a whisky bar set just off park street. Unless you want to degrade yourself to the Scream bar across the road, you’re not going to get cheap drinks anywhere around this area with a nice atmosphere, so it comes as accepted that it’s a little pricey in here. As such, you’re likely to meet a few yuppies with lots of cash to splash, but again, that happens in most of the nice bars around here. I think the prices are worth it: the whisky selection is extensive, and when you multiply this with the late opening hours you’ve got a recipe for some excellent late night drinking. You could be forgiven for thinking that the adornment of dead stuffed animals on the walls is slightly morbid, but I guess it has something to do with the name, and it’s certainly a talking point. There’s a host of unmatching comfy furniture upstairs on the mezzanine, which is a nice touch. The design has clearly been well thought out, but it comes across in a stylish way. It gets very packed in here, so either come early or be prepared for a wait as queues do happen often on weekends.

This bar is pretty unspectacular but has one thing to recommend it: it never seems to actually close, which makes it a beacon for practically everyone who’s been kicked out of a club on or near Park Street on weekends. This means there’s a lively atmosphere but also that it gets extremely rammed, and actually attempting to dance to the DJs by the bar is pretty much impossible. You can come here during the day, but it’s usually dead, which will tell you everything you need to know about this place. The garden and upstairs mezzanine are nice touches, but you should only really come here if you’re in the mood but out of options.

Set slightly away from Park Street, you’ll spot this bar by its distinctive yellow front. This is something of a specialist bar with a focus on whisky. This means behind the bar you’ll find rows and rows of(pricey) whisky on display to tempt you. The focus on whisky is taken pretty seriously; they don’t even serve beer by the pint, you have to buy it by the jug. Apart from the prices there isn’t much too complain about here. It opens late, and this is a great place for late night drinking session. The big comfy sofas upstairs should help with this too. It’s very popular, which is a blessing and curse as always. I recommend going on a week night, as you’ve got half a chance of getting one of those sofas then but it certainly won’t be quiet. Also, it’s worth knowing there’s sometimes a queue to get it at the weekend.

I don’t think my review of The Woods is going to be popular, but I thought the whole place was soooo pretentious and a bit rubbish! There are loads of dead animal skulls on the wall(which is good in one way, cause you don’t want live animal skulls up there dripping everywhere) and dead butterflies and beetles in cases. Gave me the creeps. As did the Amityville Horror wallpaper and the smell of must and dust that walks with you to the toilets downstairs. The barman wore a bobble hat the whole time we were there and charged us over £6 for two bottles of beer. Although they did have a fabulous green lamp in the corner of the bar and a lovely outdoor seating area at the back. But still

The Woods is an odd bar. It serves all drinks in either a half pint, or a 2pint glass/pitcher, or bottles. The beer selection is pretty good and the prices are ok. Theres a nice patio through the back where you can sit out in summer, and the upstairs interior is pretty good. I wouldn’t say it was hidden, as other reviewers have mentioned, but rather, just not where you’d expect a pub. Its clearly seen from Park street, and practically opposite Oppo and the White Harte.

Conveniently tucked away between Park Street and Park Row — I went to The Woods the other day as a friend recommended it. I hadn’t noticed it before as one tends to stay on the ‘strip’. A good choice though: The pub has a nice ambience and with split levels and beer garden, offers different social spaces. No hand pulled ales available(a bit of a downside for me) but plenty of bottled ales stocked in the fridge, as well as all the usual suspects. I took a recommendation from the bar man and tried a rather pricey, but delicious, Fraoch heather ale(the story goes that it has been brewed in Scotland since 2000BC and is the oldest style of ale still produced). A slight down side of the pub is that the music was too loud(not easy to talk over the old school hard rock) and chased most of the patrons away from the downstairs main bar(including us) as the night went on. That being said, I would definitely visit this one again. Great vibe and great location.
