The Victoria Park is conveniently located for a bite to eat near Victoria Park itself, there are fantastic views and décor is nice but that is sadly the nicest thing I have to say about the place. On both occasions I have been there recently I have had the misfortune of being served by the surly manageress, arriving at a venue you want to be made to feel welcome not having someone roll their eyes at you for wanting to order a drink and food. And with mains hitting the £10 mark you would expect the food to be sublime but sadly it is not excellent, perhaps there is just too much on the menu but I have had better meals at chain bars for half the price. My OH mentioned to the lovely waiter that our meal was not great who he saw telling the manageress. She never bothered coming over personally to apologise or find out what we didn’t like. Location might be convenient but I would rather make a bit more effort and go to some of the other fab eateries pubs in the area instead, service with a scowl is not fun.

This is a very family friendly pub — lots of babies and toddlers hanging around. Handy if many of your friends have joined the sprog trend which seems to invading this side of Bristol. I love the beer garden here which has a great view of the city — however, unfortunately the beer is very expensive in comparison to other pubs. I tried lunch here, and had one of their baguettes, which unfortunately contained more mayonnaise than actual filling — which is just not my bag. One thing I am looking forward to tasting though is a stonebaked pizza fresh from the pizza oven in the garden — this will have to be tried, as it looks and smells delicious.

Cool little pub right near Victoria park. Even cooler when you need to escape the elements of Victoria park to discover a pub with an excellent selection of beer. The atmosphere is great and kudos to the woman behind the bar who agreed that chilli rice crackers are the best snack ever. Also, they have their own selection of old boardgames and books and the outdoor seating was impressive! It was a bit of an impromptu visit, but I would like to come again and try some of the food!

OK, so let me put this in context! I am a 30 something lady, I became a mother just over a year ago but before that I used to very much enjoy visiting local watering holes and eateries and guess what? I still do! The nearest pub to my house is the victoria park, before we had our lovely little lady we went to the pub a few times because it was near by and it seemed to be a nice pub. It is very much a gastro pub and you really get a feel for that when you walk in, lots of well placed tables and a few cosy sofas to choose from. But it was when i became a mother that this pub really became somewhere that I love and cherish, when my little girl was only a week old, my husband persuaded me to have a shower, leave the house and go for a little short walk up to «the local», I was still a bit shakey and fragile but I decided that I would really love a pint, after not drinking for 9 months. So we found ourselves at the good old viccy park, as I walked in I could feel people looking at us but I soon realised it was because everyone loves a newborn! We sat on a nice table by the window, with the sun shining in and as I sipped the lovely pint of Stowford Press my wonderful husband sat with our baby daughter snuggled in on his chest, suddenly I felt normal again and such a feeling of happiness. It was a Friday afternoon and as I looked around I could see different people coming in and sitting down, some with children, some without. My baby decided she wanted some milk and I felt very comfortable so I decided that this would be my first public breastfeed, it was a hugely positive experience and as i looked around I was so pleased to see that I wasn’t the only breast feeding momma — there were 2 other ladies breastfeeding their babies I would like to congratulate the Victoria Park for being such a family friendly pub, for making breastfeeding mummys feel so comfortable and for searving very nice food and booze, so glad I have this as my local pub!
