We visited with a local who brings her little one here for tea and cake. On this visit two prams and three adults really stretched the seating planning, especially as there are friendly staff who still need to navigate the café part of the deli. But, we managed and had a cozy hour+ chat about life. The rasberry meringue looks awesome, but is too large to finish and too sweet to take home for later which we tried… definitely one for sharing with 2+ friends. I had the homemade cake and coffee. Our friend had similar. The little ones shared little organic treats which our friend brought with her… what a pro! A customer did look a bit quizzical when our friend breast fed her little one. A nice little spot.

The Mall Deli has that village, local deli feel to it with a lot of what appeared to be inhouse slices, cakes, pastries and salads. It also has a selection of local and organic preserves and condiments such as sugar free jams, icecream, chocolate and other treats and nibbles. We enjoyed a fresh lamb and sweet potato pie and a chorizo sausage roll with big teacup coffees. The sweet pastries and slices also looked good, but I resisted. It seemed very popular among the local mum’s, however the café is very compact in its layout, which means you have to suck it in to get past people. The Mall Deli didn’t blow my mind, but wasn’t terrible either. It’s a good alternatives to enjoy the local produce compared to mass market cafes and restaurants which seem to be more of a tourist trap.

Great food. I had the couscous and halloumi salad with a sweet potato and squash soup. My friend had the grilled chcken which could feed 3 people! The interior is very nice even downstairs. It’s cosy and the pub is a 3min from the suspension bridge that has a great view over the river.

The café is a nice enough place but they served me a pasty with meat in when I asked for a vegetarian one. In my book this is a pretty important thing to get right. The staff was apologetic and refunded me but I won’t risk going back.

My local… and not a bad one at that. Great for the cider drinkers, with several different varieties stocked, but I think they’re overshadowed by the Cori Tap just round the corner. They also have a decent selection of wines, beers and spirits, and do serve food — which is of average standard in my book. It’s a large pub, with a small terrace which closes relatively early due to the pub being in a residential area. Entertainment-wise, there’s a table football table and a quiz machine. with live entertainment most nights. Mondays are open mic night, Tuesdays are table football tournament night, most Wednesdays and Saturdays have live music. Thursday is pub quiz night, and Sundays are film nights. A great little pub — fantastic atmosphere and a great selection of drinks. One of my regular haunts!

I love this deli and all that it embodies. It’s the kind of place that makes you wish you were a true Cliftonite, living on The Downs in a vast house and popping down to the village each day to stock up on essentials like foie gras and filet mignon. I cannot walk past The Mall deli without buying something, whether it’s a little pot full of delicious olives or antipasto treats like stuffed vine leaves and artichokes or a cake. Their fairy cakes are extraordinary and out of this world. They display them in the window just to taunt people on diets I am sure of it! The topping is a little selection of all your favourite treats from a chunk of curly wurly or a rolo to a few chocolate buttons or a bit of Milky bar. Yummmmmmmmy! And there’s a little café in the back if you do want to eat on site and sample some of their lovely bigger dishes.

I can guarantee that you wont have any trouble spotting this little number. The cupcakes are outrageously good, and they look so good that they will undoubtedly catch your eye and pull you in to the café for a coffee and a cupcake. The rest of the Deli itself faces some tough competition from the smattering of good quality delis across Clifton. But it does very well, and might even be my deli of choice. They have everything you would expect, meats, cheese and a lot of oily little finger food numbers for you to keep hunger at bay before supper!

I’m sure there never used to be this many delis dotted about Bristol, or indeed the country. They’re either springing up all over the place or I’m just getting more observant — either way this is Clifton Village’s. As one would expect this is the place to get your hands on all the finest and freshest meats, cheeses, homemade cakes and pies and all the other goodies you’d expect. Being a deli and being in Clifton Village with 4×4 BMWs parked outside the price isn’t going to be too low but for a lot of it, it’s worth it. The homemade pork pies are in my opinion the flagship, and try one of their pink cupcakes for dessert. In a word, delicious.

Nice fun décor but the food and service is below par. The Calamari was over cooked, fish pie was quite bland, fish fingers were over cooked.(fish dishes are not their thing) Also the service was very slow.

I fell in love when I entered this place, with the décor and ambiance I hasten to add ! As a visitor from France, well known for its food even I was impressed by the diverse range of delicious and tempting produce displayed. It was bustling when I popped in for lunch but the staff were friendly and fast with a good menu. Would certainly not hesitate to recommend this little gem. Good clean loo too. And I succumbed to a cake.

This is a good pub that deserves to be more full. We visited on Mother’s Day at lunchtime and it was nearly empty, while so many other places in Clifton Village were full to bursting. Nice staff, nice pub garden, good pub grub. We shared a platter of food that included the very tasty whole baked Camembert with cranberry sauce, a little pot each of nice houmous and salsa, some extremely competent calamari and some absolutely spot-on falafel that were crispy outside, moist and herby within, boasting a great texture studded with whole tender chickpeas. Rumour has it that other places in Clifton Village such as the Avon Gorge Terrace Bar don’t really have to try very hard to get punters in through the door(and some say they don’t try at all), but here there was evidence of thought and effort in the quality and the welcome. Nice.

This place does the most amazing cakes. The prices are sky-high too, but the staff are nice and the food is good. Really, try the cupcakes and butterfly cakes, they are fantastic.

I love this place. Judging the size of my belly, I figure I’ve probably eaten more than my fair share of cakes and therefore can talk with some authority over whether I’m eating a good one or not. This deli sells good cakes. Not only do they look good, they taste fabulous. You can tell from the taste how fresh they are and that they use good ingredients. The deli has other lovely food too, and I apologise for getting distracted by the cakes. My favourite ones are pink and glittery though and everyone knows how distracting that can be, particularly during the difficult time of the month. If your other half looks like the weather in their region is somewhat stormy, I suggest you buy her these cakes. Trust me on this one. Anyway, yes. The other food is also lovely and the staff are friendly and helpful. They don’t take cards for anything under £5, so either happily stock up on essential luxury items or pop across to the cashpoint across the road. Oh, and did I mention the cakes?

Situated in ‘the Village’ as the so called locals call it, this is very much catering for the Bristol University students that live within a stones throw(I think I made my views clear on students in a previous review so I won’t repeat myself). There are two bars here but the lower one is hardly ever staffed. The upper Bar however does contain a varied selection of drinks: frulli fruit beer, hoegarden, and Cains Stout are of notable mention. They have a decent sized beer garden which annoyingly closes at 10pm so the local residents don’t have to listen to smokers chattering, which is a pointless exercise as the smokers stand outside the front doors(just round the corner from the beer garden) and still bother the locals with endless chatter(normally moaning how the beer garden is closed at 10 — a vicious circle if ever there was one). The food here deserves a mention as a lot of what they do is quite nice, the remainder is deep fried pub grub eg wedges(what’s wrong with plain old chips?). I found the vegetarian club sandwhich especially tasty. They have a quiz machine but little else on the electronic entertainment front. Thursday nights is quiz nights but it’s cancelled more often then it happens so don’t rely on this being the source of your evenings entertainment. Bit of a mixed bag this place, the staff are very nice which is always a pre-requisite in my book, however it’s very hit and miss, if you want a nice boozer for a Tuesday night with food thrown in it does it’s job perfectly if you’re after a place to start your friday night maybe not. One final mention goes to the used tampon(yes you heard me… USED!) stuck on the lower floor ceiling like a dare devil mouse — that’s modern art that according to the bar manager. This place like modern art isn’t everyones cup of tea but there’s worse out there. the pastel /watercolour landscapes that are chain pubs

This trendy pub reflects its location in the prestigious Clifton Village. With friendly staff on the bar which offers a whole host of lagers, ciders, and ales along with pub nosh rather than pub grub. Stylishly decorated inside, and a quaint, fairy — light saturated garden, this is a must if visiting the upmarket Clifton area.
