This is a cheap and cheerful pub with a friendly local clientele and bar staff. It’s the sort of place where locals might come for a drink in the last of the daylight after work, and end up staying til time is called. There are picnic benches in a raised area outside, and due to its somewhat out of the way location, the square of grass and play park round the corner mean its a good place to bring youngsters. Despite it’s local old fashioned décor, there is a sign welcoming students, and they often oblige due to the cheap pints and pub games. Definitely worth a visit if you’re strapped for cash and fed up of the other local pubs.

Unless you’re from Kingsdown you probably wouldn’t realise there’s a pub here. It’s in the middle of the High Kingsdown estate, catering for residents and pulling in a few students as well. Most of the places here are avowed real ale pubs, carefully cultivating a cosy traditional atmosphere. This place is a bit more conventional, with pop music playing and a slightly more modern decorating. It’s cheap for where it is — you can get a pint on the right side of two pounds fifty. At fifty pence the pool table is pretty cheap too. There’s darts as well, so plenty of ways to stretch your drinks further. Unfortunately it’s never been that busy when I’ve gone, in fact the group I went with were the only people last time I went there(this being on a weekday evening). They suffer from their location, I would have though. This kills the atmosphere for me. With that said if you don’t mind such things and just want to get out the house and have a drink then The Kings Arms is as good as anywhere else.

This is a strange place in a slightly random location. It probably says a lot about The King’s Arms that I’ve only ever been here when I’ve been walking past on my way from one better pub to another better pub. Basically, it’s tucked away in a warren-like housing estate in Kingsdown, in between the White Bear and Highbury Vaults, and the Cotham Porter Stores. It hasn’t got much to recommend it, being that it’s a one-room pub, and these generally only work if they’re small and intimate(which this certainly isn’t). It’s got a big screen and a pool table and not much else. The only things to recommend it are that it has outdoor seating and(I’m ashamed to say) the stomach-looseningly cheap vodka deals they offer even at prime time(something like a pound for a double!), which we used to ‘enjoy’ quickly before heading off to somewhere more interesting.
