Great bar this, run by ArtSpace LifeSpace, the bar is currently one of the venues in Bristol’s Festival of Photography and on display there are some amazing prints by different photographers showing scenes from Invisible Circus Nights. Above the exit there is a stencil by The Art Tart. the boneyard bar has a day of the dead theme, victoriana pieces, a stage and a decent bar — could do with a better range of rum but the scrumpy served is pretty powerful stuff! The bar is hosting lots of events at the moment and ArtSpace LifeSpace will be seeing a new home as of September I think it is, so check out this bar while you can, its a fabulous venue teeming with creativity in the heart of the city

Anything the people behind the Invisible Circus do is all right with me as they are flaming geniuses or is that geniuii? I first came here when it was part of the set-up for one of the Carny-ville nights and I drank some rather lethal punch, but I was delighted to find out it is open most days and really late on weekends. And the staff think nothing of a group of leathered people in fancy dress descending and doing some interactive dancing with a hostess trolley. It is the right sort of scruffy, with all kinds of weird arty props littered around and some comfy sofas to scrunch down in. The bar can seem oddly quiet at times and is at its best when packed to the gunnels with Carny-ville types, dressed as circus masters, burlesque dancers or bearded women. Not the greatest stocked bar in the world but hey it is welcoming, open late and not full of idiots at the weekend. And my Irish friend managed to get us a round of baby Guinness. But do try and go when there is an Invisible Circus or Carny Ville on as you will get to enjoy the amazing acrobatics, cabaret and stand-up they offer.

Oh so arty, this is place is a must-go for all bohemian types across the city. Actually, it’s often host to the very weird and the wonderful, and is certainly the kind of place where you’re never sure exactly what you’re going to get. It’s set on two levels and there’s a stage upstairs, where comedy, dancers, bands, DJs and all kinds of other acts can be found. The décor is magnificent; you can be kept entertained simply looking about the place for a good half hour or so. Between the 21st of January and 6th of February the Boneyard Bar and Old Firestation are being transformed into the Channel 4 Skins house, so expect loads of events during that period.

Achingly hip, from the modern art to the lavish furnishings. This place is clearly run by artisits and is a visual treat, with big art installations front and centre, burlesque nights, and a carefully chosen array of art adorning the walls. To add to this place’s cachet of cool the bars inside the old firestation, giving things a slight industrial feel. Edgy and cool this place is but also a lot of fun, things like the naked mannaquin trying to preserve his dignity will make you chuckle. Whilst there’s a buzz to things in the evening, the big fire station doors mean you can lounge here on a warm evening(not that there’s going to be one of those for quite a while) as well.

The new kid on the block. The cool one of whom you’re a little bit scared, but attracted to all the same. You sneak out to meet him by the old police station and firestations in the seedy centre of town. Boy, is it exciting. I’m talking about the Boneyard Bar — naughty, funky and a wee bit bad. Brought to us by the Invisible Circus team(makers of the incredible Carny-Ville) and modern art-mongers Artspace-Lifespace, this bar is far out, weird and most of all fun. Walk through the old firestation doors and you’re faced with huge art installations and a beautful bar. Opulent glamour of velvet chairs, blood-red drapes and wooden floors sum of the sorts of gin-soaked nights they host: (tasteful) burlesque nights, comedy events, a swing night every Wednesday(that’s dancing you grubby people, not wife-swapping). Beers, lounging and visual delights. Not cheap, but worth it for the pleasure.
