I came here with a big bunch of my friends for a night out. We arrived just as the band was finishing but they appeared to be pretty good! The place is pretty big! It has poles for dancing doors for posing on and a nice dance area. The music on the metal night was brilliant in our opinion. We came from all over and all had a great time! its really cheap as well! You buy a beer you get a shot? Never been to a place like that before! All in all a great metal night out. its a bit dingy but all the best metal bars are! I think they do different nights, so if you want metal look on the website!

With the resurgence of the Fleece as a rock venue the Bierkeller seems to have given up the ghost as a place for live music. That’s a shame as I’ve seen loads of great punk and metal bands there over the years: Sham 69, Lurkers, Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Macc Lads, Discharge, Chaos UK, Gwar, 999, UK Subs, Adicts, Ian Hunter, the list goes on and on. Ok the toilets were grotty and it was hell getting served at the bar, but being bigger than the Fleece allowed you to wander around a bit and catch the act from different angles without being constantly squashed up against a load of other people. Plus there were places to sit. I was also impressed with how the bouncers kept a low profile but would immediately swoop in if trouble ever started and would spirit away the perpetrator. The move into theatre with Moby Dick etc is surely headed for disaster but no doubt the place will be kept going by its oompah nights and kiddie rock discos. But bring back the bands I say!

I’ve been going here for years. I has had a real mixture of big american bands and local talant. Its not the smartest venue, but great atmosphere due to its size

The Bierkeller is a bit of a dark and dingy dive, but I think that’s probably half of its appeal for many regulars. It’s true that it’s the kind of venue where the soles of your shoes stick to the floor when you try to walk, and where you need to swill enough beer not to care about quite how grim the place is. Despite being shabby on both the inside and the outside, Bierkeller clearly has an enduring appeal for its loyal customers. I’ve been to a couple of gigs here and despite feeling a bit tainted by the general grime I had a lot of fun. In the main, this good-time drinking den is most popular with students and rockers, throwing in live punk, metal and rock bands on several nights for good measure. For those on a budget, the beer is cheap and plentiful, and the traditional German pub lay out — with long tables and benches to share — creates a friendly, lively atmosphere.

This is a funny old place which is a far better drinking hole than it is a music venue. It’s set out like a traditional German beer drinking hall with lots of long tables and benches and a big bar serving a range of cheap drinks. It’s not very appealing from the outside– looking a bit like a dive from the street and is pretty dark and dirty inside. I watched an awesome punk band here– The World Inferno Friendship Society and didn’t think the acoustics were all that good but the crowd were great. You also have to get up and actually go and stand in front of the band rather than just craning your head from your bench as visibility behind one of the roof’s big-supporting beams is an issue. Overall though the Bierkeller does what it does well and it keeps a lot of students happy with cheap drink and a lot of metal heads happy with hard rock and metal bands on the bill.

Darn good fun. Cheap booze, random selection of popular rock and metal and a fairly friendly crowd. Not bad for a cheap night out with friends if you want to drink and dance without much stress. The décor ain’t great, but once you’ve enough booze down you I doubt it’ll matter hugely!

I’m quite sure nobody really thinks this place is actually any good. It looks a bit naff from the outside and the interior isn’t much better. It’s dark, dank, sticky and generally a bit grim. If you’re the sort of person who likes that slightly unpleasant, dirty ambience, then this place is perfect. The music matches the setting insofar as it is almost exclusively heavy rock and therefore attracts your long greasy haired rockers who look like they need a good hose down. If you don’t like bands like Metalica, then you’re probably not going to enjoy yourself in here. The one notable exception to this is the live Oompah band that usually plays on a Saturday. This can be a lot of fun if you’re happy to leave your basic hygiene standards at the door and are cool about getting a strange sticky black substance on the soles of your shoes.

Went here last nite for the Oompa Band and the Worzels. Ive got to say its a great laugh with competitions on stage(who can yodle the best, girls best ass shakin etc) and some great sing along music. Its a very mixed dress code wear whatever u like fancy dress jeans cowboy hats wellies it really doesnt matter. Age range is very mixed, young and old mainly 25 — 40s and older I would guess. This is great for anyone who is not so young any more lol The majority of the nite is spent standing on the benches singing along and swaying to the music, which is a great way to excercise! Its a real party atmosphere with everyone very friendly Prices We rang and collected tickets when we got there from a guy with envelopes outside the front entrance. Its not cheap at £14 each entrance price — drinks were £9 for a stein of beer and a bacardi and coke(I think a stein is around a litre not sure) We had a great time and will be going again soon Not suitable for a quiet night out !

This ‘timeless’ venue really hasn’t changed in the slightest for at least the last 15 years. Possibly the least plush place in Bristol, the main dancefloor is all stone and pillars with rows of benches down the sides. If it weren’t for the presence of a couple of pool tables, you could be forgiven for thinking you were in a medieval torture chamber! It specialises in rock and metal nights, though Oompah Night(Bavarian style piss up which is aimed at stags, hens, etc) rules on Saturdays. I personally wouldn’t bother with any of their club nights, though they do occasionally put on some decent national bands in the week.

The best way I can think of to describe the Bierkeller is to tell you about the last time I went to see The Fall there. For the uninitiated The Fall are a grumpy old man called Mark E. Smith and a constantly changing(because he keeps on sacking them) backing band that enjoy a cult following. Anyway, I went to see them at the Bierkeller some years ago. Everything was as normal to start with. People dancing, people drinking larger, bouncers looking hard, etc. Then, about fifteen minutes into the set, Smith shoves the keyboardist and starts playing what i’m sure are just random notes. After this he went off stage for about five minutes, during which the band just kept on playing. At the Bierkeller, nobody blinks an eyelid at this. People just keep on bobbing along and drinking their beer. So a music venue where people won’t get too up set if the artist doesn’t do quite what is expected of him or her. It’s obviously all about the beer. The beer and the rock/metal/punk music, really; of which there is a programme of gigs and regular club nights. Bristol’s alternative scene is a better place for the chilled out Bierkeller

Phuct on friday night is so much fun! The djs take requests and keep things mixed going from MCR, Metallica, the Prodigy, Iron Maiden, Thrice, Slayer… all in the same hour. The regulars are a little cliquey but theres more than enough picnic tables for everyone! The libations are cheap and readily flowing– helped by the free shots with spirit purchase. If you don’t want to dance, shoot some pool or watch whatever is being shown(sans volume) on the projector screen. I wish more gigs were put on during the week– the Emily Autumn show blew my mind here. And the Reel Big Fish/Streetlight Manifesto show?- so friendly and laidback! Beats the Academy for a club/gig venue by far. I should give this place 4stars really, but I’m sentimental and have had waaay too much fun here to give it any less than full marks

The Bierkeller is one of the more reasonable venues in Bristol for seeing recognised bands like The Undertones and The Buzzcocks. It is a quite a dark and dingy place but don’t see that a bad thing! Good for rockers old and young

I’ve been here to various concerts and all-dayers over the years, and think it’s a decent venue. The ceiling is a bit low and seating odd(picnic tables) but the staff is friendly, the toilets reasonably clean and the drinks cheap. I like the fact that they have a wide range of rock and alternative bands performing here. I’ve seen local bands as well as larger bands like Anthrax, The Mission and The Damned here.

The Bierkeller is a night club and music venue which has been open for many years in the centre of bristol. The venue is quite dark and the floor is usually sticky, but this adds to its ambience. I have been to rock nights here, which are usually fun, lots of jumping about to Offspring and Metalicca Tunes. I have seen Mercury Rev at the Bierkeller a while ago and it was a good gig and the venue added the performance. I prefer a smaller venue rather than being miles away from the band that is performing. The Bierkeller also do German Beer nights where the beer is served in large 2 pint tankards, I haven’t been to one of these nights but I have heard that they are a good laugh.

The Bristol Bierkeller is a great place to socialise on the weekend with friends. I don’t think I can fault it drinks are really cheap, there is a fun and friendly atmosphere and you are guaranteed to have a great time. Featuring the live Oompah band on Saturdays and often appearances from the Wurzels! Varied music but always great! Recommended!
