A boat, which specialises in cider and some other apple based beverages. Brilliant. There are two bars on the boat, move downstairs and one on the deck. Out of the two I’d recommend the deck, as it’s a bit boat-dank downstairs. There’s an impressive list of ciders, mostly on tap, from scrumpies to the pale and fizzy ones. You can try out a cider brandy or a Champagne cider, made using Champagne yeast if you’re feeling fancy. Did I mention it’s on a boat?

Amazing. Its the most comfortable place to enjoy a drink this end of town. Great atmpshpere, very close to the old duke and llandoger trow. All fits in nicely together. Perfect if youve just moved to bristol and your unsure where to go. Really friendly and not clicky at all. Caters to anyone :)

I love this bar you can get hammered on 3 pints if thats your wish, but some of the people here are so good looking even the girls. I am there every Friday with my mate Cosmo and Elmore getting a diy course in plastering .hic

Well located on Welsh Back, Apple is a busy Cider Bar on a barge popular with students who seem to love the ‘Old Bristonian’ at over 8% and only served in half pints. An ok sized menu and they’re more than happy for you to have a taste of the ciders on tap before you choose one. There’s some seating inside and a lot more outside. If i could request one thing though it would be a few more ciders on tap :-)

I am drunk here, it was good till Adam spilt cider on Steve’s phone. The only challenge Is the cobbles, but hey that is tradition x

I was quite excited at the prospect of checking out this place as i’d heard a lot of hype about it. Now that i’ve experienced ‘The Apple’ I must admit that my opinion is split. What I Loved About The Apple: –It’s called ‘The Apple’ –It’s got a great atmosphere –It’s on a boat What I Didn’t Love About The Apple: –The Cider Now I know that might sound a bit damning considering it’s a cider boat, but just cos I didn’t like it, doesn’t mean you won’t. I suggest you go and try it out, cos like I said. it’s on a boat!

The Apple is Bristol’s most famous cider boat… I’d swap ‘famous’ for ‘only’. How many ‘cider boats’ can a city have? The Apple’s fame is down to its high prices on what is basically farmhouse cider and its cheeky ‘large’ menu.(If you want a laugh, check out the cheese menu). The customersLego Starwars. Buy a drink from the plank and fall overboard. Awful, really really awful.

The Apple is Bristol’s most famous cider boat situated in the busy Harbourside area. It’s most famous cider is Old Bristolian, which is 8% and is only served in half pints! It tastes ok but it doesn’t come close to the exhibtion cider served in the Coronation Tap(Clifton). There’s a wide range of ciders on offer, mostly local west country ones and the prices are fairly good. The boat itself is a bit dark and dingy and it rocks– a lot! Being downstairs and drinking a pint of old Bristolian whilst the boat rocks from side to side is an unpleasant experience. The Apple is a bit of a novelty and lots of fun but it’s not the best cider place in Bristol– the Coronation Tap is better– and the food is not too good.

This is probably one of the most popular bars in the centre of bristol and is alway packed — both on the boat in winter and on the dockside in the summer. The basic premise behind this place is that it is a cider bar — dont come here expecting much else on the menu other than cider, as the drinks are pretty limited on the beer or wine front. However thier selection of ciders is amazing, with a large range of ciders and perries and even apple related cocktails and mulled cider in the winter months. The atmosphere is always fantastic and the décor is very inviting with large comfy sofas inside. The only downfall is that becuase it is so populalr there is often a queue at the very smal only bar in the bows of the boat. They also have a good menu with a large range of gastro pub type dishes that are all well priced(the desserts are particularly good) and the food is very tasty since they got a new chef. I would highly recommend a visit especiailly in the summer months.

Like cider? You’ll love the Apple! This boat on the welsh back — right next to the Old duke — is dangerous if you stay too long! A great range of ciders are sold here, both draught and bottled. Most of them are local juices and very tasty indeed. The toilets are ‘unisex’ which troubles some, but it’s not a big problem if you ask me. Outside the boat on dry land is a large seating area with picnic benches, heaters for the more chilly evenings and a very large umbrella to keep the rain off. A great venue for some decent cider drinking!

Well the Apple has certainly added something different to that area of town but it really is something of an acquired taste for a venue, and that’s before you’ve tasted a cider. If the weather is bad then there is good chance you’ll be forced to stay in the somewhat cramped area of the ships hull, which is long and narrow, and it can be a clostrophobic experience on a busy night and there is very little in natural light in the place. On a good day you can sit upstairs which is fine and dandy but not much different from the other King Street pubs other than the fact that the other pubs have decent toilets! I don’t want to knock the Apple but it charges way over the top for cider, but I suppose if you’re a person that will pay £3 for a Magners then you’ll think this is great when you can get Rich’s for £2.50. For a real cider experience you’re better heading down to the Orchard near the SS Great Britain.

Most people would think that selling cider out of an old barge near water would have been a bad move. But thankfully someone did. The apple has some of the most delicious tasting ciders and quiet a large selection at over 40. If you pop into the apple try the old bristolian or thatchers, or sample some of there cider cocktails. All in all the staff are friendly and courteous and its a good stop on the long night of partying.

The Apple is one of the best cider houses in Bristol, and the novelty of boats turned into pubs still hasn’t worn off me. The food is great, having a variety of pieminister pies and quite a sophisticated menu. It boats of 40 different perrys, hundreds of ciders and about two lagers. It’s also home to the nemesis of corrie taps exhibition ale: Old Bristolian. Old Bristolian tastes fantastic and goes down a little too well. So well, that you can’t see what the fuss is about until Bob Marley flies past on a swan. It’s powerful stuff, and served in half pints for a reason. It’s worth the money, though. This a great bar to drink at with plenty of seating, an excellent eating area and a very extensive drinks list. My only complaint is that its not all that clear the toilets are unisex. So careful you don’t do anything in front of the mirrors that your mother wouldn’t approve of, because someone will walk in and ruin your day.

As regular readers of my reviews may know, i’m not the biggest cider fan(all though I am starting to enjoy it more, a bad teenage experience with a 3 litre bottle of white snake stilll haunts me — I would like to take this opportunity to apologise again to all users of Cotham Gardens sand pit). However, if you like Cider then this is the place to come. On my last visit they had seven ciders available on tap with a multitude more in bottles(none of them being whitesnake!). If you don’t like cider you will feel very left out as there is nothing else here for you. If you’ve never had Cider before then this is the place to start. The seating area outside is extensive but with the main bar and inside seating area being on a boat it will get very cramped. If you’re a non smoker and don’t want to be stuck outside then you will probably be out of luck. I guess this place will struggle a bit through the cold winter months but excell during summer. As a bar it’s nothing special but as a Cider hole it’s a palace, I’m giving this place 4 stars but if you’re not a cider drinker then take away 2.

The Apple is not the type of place I would choose to frequent during the day. Although it is always the place of choice at some point on a night out. The ciders can be quite lethal and the atmosphere can be excellent. The bathroom area is quite dirty and confusing(communal). And I wouldn’t recommend that The Apple as a starting venue. But it is one of those places that you are drawn back to once out in town, there are always loads of stories made whilst at The Apple and it is the type of venue you go with low expectations but you’ll have a lot of fun.

This venue seems to be a really popular choice at the moment. Its a got a lot of ciders to choose from including fruit ciders and a good seating area outside. I am not sure why it is so well liked as there is nothing that special about it.

I’m not particulary impressed by the Apple. I think that the only time when it’s actually worth going here is on a really sunny day when you can sit outside(actually sitting outside the boat is nicer) and enjoy some cider in the warmth. The boat is generally is a bit tatty and dirty and it’s actually quite rocky– you really feel like you’re on a boat, which isn’t too good if you’ve had a good cider. The Apple is famous for its ‘Old Bristolian’ cider which is 8.4% and only served in halves. It’s ok but I don’t think it’s anything special. There is a fairly good choice of ciders but this place is more of a tourist novelty than a good place to go out. I wouldn’t want to eat food here because it’s a bit dirty

Well, it is the drink that Bristol and the West Country is famous for(‘Bring I the Ziderrrrrrr!’) so its only right that Bristol should be home to the best cider drinking venue in the country. The boat is cosy and has lots of leather sofas to squidge up on. The staff are young and friendly and theres always someone nice to talk to at the bar! The cider is good quality and reasonably priced, and they have oh so many varieties!

An excellent venue located in the centre of bristol on the bustling floating harbour, this ship-bar serves seven draught ciders and perries and many more guest drinks. The ciders are excellent and the staff are helpful and courteous. There is outdoor heating and in summertime it becomes a popular rendezvous for the city workers and students that cram the generous seating areas.
