The Swan Inn is part of the Greene King chain of pubs, which try to retain a sense of original pub character in each location but which have unified standardised pub menus and so on. So there’s not as much character as a ‘real’ pub but much more character than, for example, a Wetherspoon’s. It’s spacious and there are a few nooks & crannies so if you can get there without drinking & driving, then it’s a good place to spend a gentle evening. The one time to avoid it is Sunday lunchtimes, when it is utterly packed. The food is hit and miss. We used to go there fairly often because(and I know this is cheapskate) they used to accept Tesco Clubcard Food vouchers, making eating there really cheap, but ever since they stopped accepting those we haven’t felt much need to go back and pay full price for the food, as it wasn’t that good. Sometimes it was good, but sometimes it tasted a little bit too fresh-out-of-the-microwave.
