Good service and good food. Went for late lunch and had their lunch deal. Will i return? Yes it was a casual place for a simple japanese lunch.

Went for the Tokyo Express lunch set. Ramen for £6.50, can’t argue with that boys and girls. Some good beer choices too. Interior is half cool, half kitsch. Something kind of ugly about the tables/chairs though. Had the Chashu Ramen and definitely recommend it. Also tried some of the Tantanmen ramen, which was also great. Will be back again to try the rest of the menu soon.

I made the mistake of getting donburi instead of ramen… The chicken teriyaki was pretty bland and came out the first time with barely warm, dry chicken. The heated version was better but overall just blah and kind of lacking in flavor. Miso soup was ok but very salty. Service was very nice, however, and dealt with my issue quickly.

For traditional ramen and donburi I think you’ll be hard pushed to find anywhere at such a good prices in Bristol. I would highly recommend the lunch menu. You get a decent sized bowl for under £7, which I’ve never had or have heard complaints about. Evening meals have been a little hit or miss. They are either amazing or a bit of a let down. The Big Porky is a personal favourite as their pork always tastes amazing. I gave the Duck Ramen a try one night and it tasted pretty bland for the price. The broth can also be hit or miss and the miso soup lacks in flavour. The noodles however always taste great and the evening meals will not leave you feeling hungry. If you’re thinking of going on a Friday or Saturday night it is worth booking as it does fill up quick.

Another low standard restaurant in Bristol(with regards to food). Staff were lovely, décor is great, really well kitted out. However, deep fried crab — horrific. Dough balls– mediocre, and the flat bread with pork– definitely the best of the lot. Won’t be back. Was really hoping for another decent spot in Bristol, they’re few and far between.

Totally love this place, from the clean and visually stunning décor, to the extremely friendly staff, the food was fresh and there was plenty of it washed down with a bottle of Japanese real ginger ale, not a better feeling could of been had.

I’ve been here a couple of days ago and the food and service were very good, the ramen is served hot and the locally brewed beers are interesting. The place is informal, and reasonably priced I’d say. Had a Big Porky Ramen and trust me… It is big! :) Recommended to all the ramen cravers out there!

Are those lampshades really made of noodles?! I asked whilst chomping my way through my 3rd bowl of Noodles as I finished off other peoples leftovers during the 1st taste of Asia event. The locally brewed ginger pale ale was uniquely delicious and whilst the Kimchee didn’t pack quite enough punch for my liking there was a chilli salt shaker on hand and additional chillis upon request which I gladly scoffed with glee in my eyes. If you want a quick, tasty, filling(unless your name is Dave) dinner for just over a tenner in the centre of Bristol then it’s job done at Sticks N Broth. If you have a hunger… if no one else can help… and if you can find it… maybe you can go to … Sticks N Broth.

Oodles of Noodles I’m glad I’ve found this place… I’ve not had Ramen before but definitely will again. The menu is well laid out with about 15 – 20 Ramen(Noodle) dishes(with and without broth) and Donburi(Japanese Steamed Rice) dishes. Prices for mains range from £10-£14 with the option of adding extra components for a couple of £. I opted for the Seafood Kimchi Ramen as I’m a huge fan of seafood and spice and my girlfriend chose the Teriyaki Donburi(grilled chicken). When my dish arrived it was piping hot which is sometimes a rarity when dining in a large party(around 20). The dish was packed full of ingredients — mussels, shrimps, salmon and the best squid I have ever tasted. The chicken bone broth was delicious and could be a meal on it’s own. The meal came with choi sum, bean sprouts, bamboo, toasted seaweed and a half an egg which was marinated in soy. The spice factor was comparable with a red thai curry and left a nice tingling sensation in my mouth for a while. Both portion sizes were large and good value for money. Everything was freshly cooked to perfection. Both of us had the house ginger pale ale which was refreshing and reminded me of Crabbies. I decided to use the provided chopsticks — something I hadn’t used since visiting Wagamamas a couple of years ago. My girlfriend decided to use cutlery and this wasn’t frowned upon like I’ve seen in other establishments. The restaurant is small and you need to reserve a table with groups 8+ There is also a lunchtime menu with all dishes @ £6.50 ea.

A recent study from Yeovil University Michigin(Y.U.M.) found that out of 100 different dishes they tested, the best cure for January blues, is a nourishing bowl of wholesome broth*. So off I went to test their bold theorem! I was childishly excited to see there was a seafood kimchi ramen on the menu. I had only ever seen this magical spicy Korean sauerkraut on the tellybox and ordered it forthwith, full of hunger and curiosity. I also opted for some extra choi sum at £1, for that little extra vegetable boost. It arrived to a little round of oohs and ahhs, crowned with a tower of mahoosive prawns(I have added a photo to prove it). It was utterly scrumptious and I greedily washed it down with a bottle of fine ale. My only niggle is it could have been a little spicier for me, but that’s personal preference. Also they forgot to bring my beer. Points off for that guys! Definitely recommend this place. It’s guilt free and ramen rich, pick your broth and grab your sticks! *this university and study were completely fabricated by the author to be used as a rather poor literary device.

After hearing lots of great things about this place from other Unilocalers, I was very pleased that Sticks and Broth was chosen to kick off Unilocal Bristol’s ‘Taste of Asia’ social events. It truly lived up to its expectations, and I will be back for more ramen very soon! After being overwhelmed by all of the delicious sounding dishes on the menu, I decided to go for a ‘Big Porky Ramen’. Which to my embarrassment I realised that when you you say those words following the introduction ‘Please can I have a…’ … Well… It sounds quite rude… So I enjoyed my ‘Porky Ramen’ with a side of bamboo. It was delicious. Pork done three ways(oops, there I go again.) steeped in a rich pork bone broth, with noodles, greens, seaweed and an awesome soft boiled soy egg. It was a little tricky trying to eat a large piece of pork belly with a pair of chopsticks, but hey, you are allowed to use your hands when in good company, right? I accompanied my meal with a very reasonable £2.95 glass of Gewurtztraminer, which is a cracking wine to pair with spicy food. The portion sizes are more than generous, but I had no qualms about slurping up every last spoonful of my meal. The décor is very trendy. Think concrete, industrial lighting, corrugated metal and artsy and imposing graffiti — warmed up with some absolutely enormous anemomie/noodle-God lampshades. And of course, not to forget the odd roll of baking paper hanging from the walls. Great service throughout the evening also. The staff were pleasant and friendly, and made sure we had everything we required. They also smelled very pleasant too. An odd thing to share in a review, yes… But I believe the waiter was wearing the same after shave as my partner did when we met ten years ago — which brought even more good feeling to enhance the evening further. Only criticisms I can think of is that the tables towards the rear of the restaurant get a bit chilly as the bathroom windows beyond are kept open, and some of the guests mentioned that their broth wasn’t particularly warm(I suppose because there was a delay in serving such a large group). Wonderful stuff. I can’t wait to go back again, and again, and work my way through that menu. Yum yum!

My first visit to a Ramen bar, by Robert, aged 25. I would like to think I’ve tried a fair few of the cuisines on offer in this exciting world we live in, how wrong I was — turns out there’s a lot more to Asian food than I was led to believe and what a superb place to experience my first Japanese food. When you first walk into Sticks & Broth you’re greeted with a trendy, yet casual atmosphere with lots of cool and interesting artwork and fittings(you have to check out the light fittings!) and members of staff who greet you with a big friendly smile; the kind that makes you feel instantly at ease and lets you know service here will be attentive. Ordering food here is made super simple for newbies like myself by the staff who are more than happy to take you through what’s in a dish. I decided to go with the Chicken Teriyaki Don with side salad and was not disappointed. The food was freshly prepared, cooked and served nice and hot(quite an achievement for a table of 20 odd people) and thoroughly delicious. The flavours in the dishes are amazing and left me wondering why it had taken me so long to try Japanese! Chopsticks! Chopsticks! Chopsticks! A skill I’ve never been able to master no matter how many people have said«it’s really easy, look — I’ll show you» but fret not, the staff here are really friendly which meant I could ask for and use a fork without feeling like an outsider or that I had insulted someone’s culture. The drinks selection is really good and boasts a selection of Japanese ales and lagers alongside(what I’m reliably told) are good wines that compliment the meals here really well. The house ale is very drinkable with a smooth and almost fruity edge to it yet retains the darker signature tastes of a good ale. I had such a great time here, I really can’t recommend it enough whether you’re experienced in Japanese cuisine or looking for something new to try.

Very good restaurant with generous portions. Food is tasty and made fresh to order. If you like spice you can ask for it as they tend to be mild, and you also have a chilli pot on the table to add more if you like. Been for lunch(lunch menu available) and dinner and all 3 times it’s been very good. Would definitely recommend. only downside is that you do come out of there with your clothes and hair smelling of food which is why I’m rating 4 out of 5. Otherwise all very good and worth a visit.

After hearing a lot about this place i was glad to be able to sample the goods! The décor is pretty cool with nice slow jazz type music playing. I was in two minds whether to get a starter having a rumbling tummy but i’d been told the portions are huge for the main so i refrained! The were correct… Duck ramen was my chosen dish and it was
so good. Tones of noodles, pok choi, bean sprouts, seaweed and a delicious broth for it to mellow in. The duck itself was gorgous! The only comment i had at the time is that the duck is served on the bone, in a big soup bowl… with chopsticks it’s near impossible to eat it before needing some added utensils– apart from that minor gripe i really liked it. £12 for the main dish which sounds a lot but it was massive i couldn’t finish it. You could easily have a starter each and share one of these really :) I’d def go back again in a flash and hope someone is up for trying it again, i spent 10minutes in a torturing endured battle of what to have so i reckon some working my way through the menu might have to be done!

Situated opposite The Old Fish Market this is a recent addition to the gastronomic delights of Baldwin Street. We went on a Wednesday night and whilst waiting outside for friends(having luckily booked) there where an impressive number of people trying to get a table. Due to its size there are not too many covers but when you’re in the place it gives a cozy and friendly atmosphere. Service was engaging and there are some seriously interesting lamp shades. We had dumplings on sticks and bang bang chicken to start which were great and along side some ginger derived beer(at 8% they pack a punch) We then had two Raman(the Fat boy and big porky) each of which can only be described as a testament to the pig and massively generous portions, the sweet menu was firmly pushed away afterwards not from a lack of desire, there was just no space! Prices wise drinks were around 6 each(they did do the business though) and the Raman we had where £12 — 14 Great food and drink, fully recommended ;)

I think this used to be a notoriously hipster burger bar. But now, awesome ramen bar. Funny how these things work out. Yes, I am reviewing another place on Baldwin Street, but, I really love this kind of food, so I will be making no apologies. So! Sticks & Broth, I went here because the old fish market have changed their menu. I was really in the mood for Thai, then looked immediately across the road to discover a Ramen Bar and was persuaded to visit this establishment. I looked over the menu and saw such words as Ramen, Yakitori and Kirin on tap being bandied about so I decided this was the place for me. I had bang bang chicken to start followed by the Phat Boy ramen. Both of which had decent portions and were just all kinds of delicious. I was also sold on the look of the bar. It was refreshing to walk into a Ramen/noodle bar and not encounter bright lights and soulless design. It’s rustic Japanese, so think feudal Japan as inspiration and not future Japan. Extra house-points for stocking Kirin and serving it on Tap! They also had a few other Japanese beers by the bottle and Japanese whisky. My only, tiny, tiny, tiny, minuscule, nitpicky peeve, was that for such an establishment as this, I didn’t see any Shochu or Sake. Not sure if I overlooked it, or if it was just down to the preference of the owner, but they would have been a nice finisher to an awesome meal. Anyway, please visit this establishment, especially if you want to see an example of a Ramen Bar done properly.
