Snap

It was a little bicycle that alerted me to the presence of Snap. Yes, a bicycle. At the bottom of Lower Park Row, a little blue bicycle with Snap written on it and an arrow pointing up the road. «How sweet,» I thought, and went to have a look.
Snap is a quirky, small art gallery, shop, art studio and «print cooperative» — meaning a group of artists working together in one place, making things to exhibit and sell. It all centres on printing, and the pieces produced are lovely and unusual.
You can come in just to browse, or buy things like cushion covers, bags, cards and, of course, prints. Or, for the more keen, the artists run regular printmaking workshops.
Though it’s on Lower Park Row, this is a thoroughly Christmas Steps-​ish endeavour — with all focus on local artists, individual businesses and crafts.

Snap on Lower Park Row is a refreshing alternative to many of the galleries and studios in the area. A group of eight artists work together to form this one shiny collective. Each has a studio upstairs and downstairs they sell and plug their artwork.
Expect a selection of unique cards, gifts and posters which all make ideal and original presents. At various times there will be guest artists displaying their work as well as the in house stuff. It is also possible to have individual and specific designs produced here either by the artists or by having a go yourself on many of the screen printing and book binding evening classes.
The best thing to do is pop in and have a look for yourself.

A printmaking collaboration between a group of local artists — here’s the shout out: Abi Barfield, Katy Chard, Freya Cumming, Tom Frost, Jon McNaught, Emma Peacock, Tortie Rye, Lucie Sheridan and Simon Tozer.
The shop is to the left after you’ve puffed your way up Christmas Steps, so you may miss it as there are a lot of shops to your right.
The bright gallery has lots of cards, handmade books and prints — framed and unframed — meaning you can find something to your budget.
