I like Secka. I’m not entirely sure what it means or if it’s someone’s names but I like the shop. It’s like a step into another world — a Narnia-esque vibe. Crystal dragons and pixies vie for glass shelf space with goblins and wizards. Incense in all shapes and flavours are piled gracefully about. Petite umbrellas and parasols decorated with sequins and tinsel give way on to cases of handmade candles, drums, whistles and flutes in the corner, homemade bags, clothing and so much more. This is a magical shop with a peaceful vibe. If that’s your thing, and you know who you are — tootle down here.

Church road — full of kebab shops, Tescos, discount stores and charity shops. Or so I thought. I unearthed unimaginable treasures(and pleasures) the day I entered Secka for the first time. The lovely Gambian owner, Mo, tuns this jewellery and gift shop, and makes many of the beautiful silver bracelets, rings and necklaces himself. He adds a ethnic and tribal edge to the unique pieces — all of which make the best gifts for those females(and males actually) in your life. Alongside this there are some funky aromatherapy oils, soaps and bath products, greeting cards and gifts. What is especially useful is that the shop runs a jewellery cleaning and repair service too, which are few and far between these days.

Mo runs this endearing little jewellery and gift shop, handcrafting a lot of the silver bracelets, rings and necklaces on display himself. He also has links with his former workshop in the Gambia which now employs his brother in crafting silver jewellery too. There are some unusual and original designs for sale and all at reasonable prices and Mo also offers a jewellery cleaning and repair service. Secka stocks a range of aromatherapy oils, soaps and bath products, greeting cards and gifts.
