Very, very good traditional Italian food so traditional it’s funky. Everything I’ve tried there is fresh, well prepared and just plain delicious. The ambiance is not slick but comfortable the way you would want your neighborhood trattoria. The fish/seafood specials are especially good. The prices are moderate and the food is far better than a number of upscale Italian eateries in Bristol.

This is a parents-in-law sort of place. Not that it’s expensive or extravagant, in fact its a rather safe little Italian on the nice end of Gloucester Road. This is traditional with a capital ‘T’ — spag bols and lasagnes all round. When we took the inlaws we were treated like royalty by the waiting staff. The house vino is cheap and flows well. A word of warning, we ordered full on bruschetta topped with roasted peppers and tomatoes. It was absolutely delicious, drizzled in olive oil and topping a crisp ciabatta. But the main courses are some of the biggest I’ve ever been served, I’m talking like mamma used to make. I ate Cabonara(not the healthy option with all that cream) there was easily enough spaghetti for a family of 6, plus chunks of ham and seasoned well with black pepper. The pizzas were thin and not scimpy on toppings. Although too full for pud, the tiramisu on a neighbouring table appeared creamy and spongy and sprinkled with just the right amount of cocoa powder. Don’t let the retro stylings put you off, yes there are melted candle centerpieces to the tables, moustachioed waiters, warpling music and bottles with basket weave bottoms. But the food has the same old-school Italian charm.
