The perfect stop for breakfast, or lunch, or to cure hunger pangs when on the go. I love Philpotts porridge! But this is not all they do — sandwiches, pastries, breakfasts etc. All delicious and all very good value. The porridge is perfect, especially on a cold morning, warm and sweet(if only you can get those dam bears away from it, wahey). I also recommend the pastries and cakes as a very tasty treat! I recently discovered that Philpotts runs a catering service for conferences and events, the same great food and reasonable prices delivered ready prepared for your event. You can choose the sandwich fillings you want and the price ranges are what you would expect — without any sneaky add-ons. They provide the ideal refreshments — both savoury and sweet, for any occasion. Philpotts is great because they offer traditional food and drink and excellent service. What more could you want for your lunchtime meal or daily snacks? Philpotts is definitely worth a visit.(I’m not Goldilocks).

I am a die hard fan of Philpotts, it is actually one of the reasons that i decided to come to university in Bristol. I was bought up in Shrewsbury where there is a Philpotts, and thought that leaving there would mean leaving my favourite sandwich shop behind, thankfully this was not the case. They manage to get everything so right here, fresh breads, choice of fillings, choice of spreads and always made with a smile on their face. You truly cant go wrong here. I live up in Redland, and i have been known to hop on my bike to get down to Philpotts to grab a sandwich. Once you remember that the journey involves a cycle back up park street you will understand the extent to which the glory of the sandwiches possesses my soul.

If you’ve been in the city centre on a week day lunchtime you’ll know that Bristol is in no shortage of sandwich shops. The competition is fierce, but Philpotts on Marsh Street comes top of my list every time. Don’t be put off by how busy they get between 12am and 2pm — just remember that they’re busy for a reason! Will a fantastic range of freshly prepared fillings to change to, a variety of breads and rolls and tasty crisps and chocolate bars for a lunch time treat you can’t go wrong. Philpotts like to give the magic touch: olive oil instead of butter, seasoning on your filling — they put the joy back into the institution of a lunch time sarnie! Check their website for their daily specials, or to pre-book your order before 11:30 am. Once you eat here, you’ll be a Philpotts devotee.

Philpotts faces stiff competition around this part of Bristol, with lots of different shops trying to cash in on the office lunch trade. They make a good offering though, with a diverse range of fillings that isn’t just the usual ham, cheese, or tuna. It’s all fresh and the only problem is getting there before they sell out of the best fillings. On a weekday around lunchtime you’ll be lucky if you only have to wait less than five minutes. It’s a bit ridiculous at times like this — it seems like half of Bristol want a Philpotts sandwich. So if you can avoid it don’t go along then. You’re better off trying to beat the crowds and treating yourself to an early lunch about half eleven(this place is worth skipping breakfast for if you need to make some space).

This sandwich bar chain have 3 shops in Bristol. I say chain, but I was quite surprised to find out they were, as the quality and atmosphere suggests otherwise. There’s an extremely wide variety of fillings for a sandwich or baguette lunch, ranging from Avocado salad to simple ham and cheese salad. Try the smokes salmon and cream cheese on a granary baguette– it’s quite exquisite. Perhaps the branch I’m accustomed to on Marsh Street in Bristol isn’t so good at stocking up, but I’ve been in a few times when they’ve run out of basic thinks like turkey or ementhal cheese, which is a bit of a let down. Equally, though, this could be a testament to their success, as numerous times I’ve attempted to buy lunch here and the queue is literally going out the door and round the corner. So, get in early to avoid disappointment, but it’s well worth it if you do, as you’ll get a high quality lunch for less than a fiver.

There are three Philpotts in Bristol, this one is the one I used to use the most which is tucked down the side road near Stanfords or up from the road crossing by Jongleurs. The premise is — you choose your bread, you choose your spread, you choose your fillings and they make it for you. Sounds like Subway? Wash your mouth out you filthy heathen. This is no ordinary sandwich shop, this is a quality, lovely, extra bacon please sandwich shop. Yep, it can be a bit pricey but they stuff the sandwiches so full I actually can buy one sandwich and it lasts me two days, making it much much cheaper than any packaged sandwich. Everything is very fresh and clean, lots of nice crisps and cakes to add onto your order as well and your everyday lunch has suddenly got very interesting. Yum. TOPTIP: If you are ordering lots or just hate queuing, you can order online for any of their shops as long as you do it before 11.30am and you just pick it up at the till at the time you want.

I love Philpotts — I used to go the one on Marsh Street(there are 2 more in Bristol — Victoria Street and Temple Quay) most days for lunch when I worked in the area. There is such a huge range but I was a creature of habit and addicted to the turkey, bacon and emmental salad, topped with cranberry sauce. The salads are more than iceberg lettuce — included in the price, you can choose from the following: mixed leaves, cherry tomatoes, peppers, red onion, gerkin, celery, sweet corn, sunflower seeds and olives. There is a huge range of fresh fillings on display to choose from for your sandwich, salad or bagette. There are also daily hot specials and selection of soupsnot to mention a few sweet treats, organic crisps and organic drinks. Worth bearing in mind that they don’t accept card — I’ve been caught out a few times without cash. Delicious, delicious, delicious
