Every product designers dream; a wide selection of differently shaped, funky, modern chairs made using a variety of diverse and expensive materials. You know the type of furniture that is beautiful to look at, but nobody really buys do they? I know that’s not true, and if I had the money my house would look a lot more like the inside of this shop and a lot less like the inside of a charity shop(I’m kidding, it looks like Pee-wee’s Playhouse). There’s a lot of stock here, all packed in, which does make perusing the beautiful furniture slightly more of a task. They act as an even more high-end version of habitat, if that is possible. But they are clearly passionate about unique, well designed furniture and I think shops like this are extremely hard to find. These shops have always seemed to me like they price out a large section of the public, but good design all to often does, but I suppose that is what IKEA is for and you won’t find any flat packed furniture made from hollow plastic-wood here.

This modern furniture shop, situated towards the bottom of Whiteladies Road, is a great place to come for inspiration, even if your wallet can’t quite stretch to some of the price tags. A mix of Eastern and Western design ideas, Oskar is certainly more upscale than Ikea and slightly more individual than nearby Habitat. As well as the shop, which acts as a showroom, there is a warehouse around the corner which can be seen by appointment. I found the woman in the shop to be a little distracted the last time I went in but this place is still worth a visit, particularly for the accessories, which are more affordable and a great way to jazz up a living room.

Oskar, the furniture shop is definitely a cool place to go to deck out your abode. It’s something of an expensive and better quality Ikea, and more central, which is definitely a plus point for a pedestrian like myself. I really like the style of the furniture here, it’s kind of Eastern, but also modern and trendy, and I always nearly persuaded to buy something every time I go in here. The price tag is a little off putting though, but I will definitely visit again when I can afford to.

Great modern furniture and décor shop, which isn’t as wildly expensive as it looks — you can pick up a candlestick for about £12 and cushions for £30 which is the same as Habitat although it can easily go into several hundred for a lampshade. However it is all a bit more original here and with a definite modern edginess as they stock top end design winning work. Their lighting section is particularly fab.
