Old & New

This place is sort of a mix between an antique shop, a second-​hand electrical store, and a junk shop, filled with a rather bizarre array of items.
If you’re looking for cheap freezers, washing machines, fridges or televisions, they stock them — then at quite the opposite end of the spectrum, if you’re looking for a grandfather clock, it’s right here too.
In between the contemporary electrical goods and the ‘antiques & collectibles’, you’ll find an odd and eclectic assortment of ornaments, paintings and furniture — with no common design thread running through the stock at all. I guess it’s the kind of place where house clearance items end up, and if you can get past the tacky statue of a tiger stood proudly in the window, it’s worth a look around, with some nice bits of furniture amidst the tack.

Well well well, what do you know? It’s another furniture shop… In Bedminster! Seriously, I’m beyond confused as to how/why…Anyhow, this little shop buys good quality household furniture, including fridges, cookers, freezers, washing machines and the like and sells them at most affordable prices. Staff here like to display their wares at the front of the shop, which is how I discovered my beautiful oak-​made chest of draws. At just £30, I couldn’t resist them (I don’t usually get excited about furniture btw) — they looked so old and characterful. Indeed, if you’re looking for unique furniture which emanates mystery and mustiness, this is your shop.

When moving house sometimes you find that you need to beef up the furniture of your new abode. However, as we all know during these times of recession it’s not always affordable to pop into the ‘bigger’ stores, be met by the zombies of retail and have them reel off the exact specs of any item you point to in that boring, monotone voice which would be put to better use grating cheese rather than your ear drums.
Thankfully there are shops out there like Old & New, in which you find an array of every household item you would ever dream of needing at prices which are extremely pleasing on the eye and the bank balance! Stepping into the shop you are also met with quite an assortment of Antiques & Collectables in amongst the Fridge Freezers & Televisions.
The shop owner is also a real gem, very helpful and also happy to keep an item for you because he know’s you aren’t gonna get a better price elsewhere!
