Located towards the end of the high street(I say high street just because that is what the road is called, in reality there is about 20 shops that finish with a pub to greet you at the end!) The Forester is a welcoming establishment that is grateful of any custom it reseives. Westbury-on-trym has a few nice pubs sporadically placed around, The Forester, although a very nice place isn’t the best pub you can find, but in my experience it is one of the friendliest. Pricing is a little steep on a few beverages but because of it’s location at the end of the high street it can afford to put it’s prices up a bit, and if you don’t fancy walking up westbury hill you wont really have any other alternatives.

For an area as nice and affluent as Westbury-on-Trym, it doesn’t half have a lot of slightly rough pubs. This one is the most central of the lot, sitting right next to the roundabout as you come down Westbury Hill; it’s easily identified by the seats that are crammed outside the front door. Attracting a younger crowd than some of the pubs in the area, this has a fairly large main room that is cut in half by the large bar in the middle. There’s an emphasis on sports with a separate pool room and they did have Sky Sports, though I’m not sure if this has remained since it recently shut and reopened(which tells a story in itself). The fact is that this place is synonomous with trouble for many locals, which is a shame for such an attractive and historical building as this.

Be very sure you know what you’re up to before entering this very basic scrumpy drinkers pub. I sat and watched a Footie game in here once as it was the only place showing it. I came out a nervous wreck. I believe the licence as been revoked several times, and how it is still operating is a mystery. This one is definitley for the harder members of society!!!
