We had cheap authentic English breakfast here. We were the only tourists here. The atmosphere is pretty english.

Judging on appearance alone, Café Mocha, situated in the heart of Broadmead, is boring, brown and bog standard bland as independent coffee shops go. The colour palette and interior make this café just blend into the background and I would agree with another review in saying the name is unbelievably lacking in imagination. However, I was told that the coffee was good and the food reasonable so I went inside to see for myself. As predicted from the outside, the interior is very bland, with a single row of seating opposite the large counter. There is a large selection of cold drinks and baked goods on offer but when I got there(around midday) the only fruit left was two rather sorry looking black bananas. When I asked if there were anymore out the back I was given a withering look and then charged 50p for the small, bruised thing. The coffee and hot chocolate were much better and my friend enjoyed her ham and cheese sandwich, which did smell delicious. This café does offer great value for money(fruit aside) but could do with a little magic and originality to make it somewhere special to visit.

This is a fairly ordinary greasy spoon, really, with not a great deal of character. Its big draw is the cheap all-day breakfasts, but there are also other standard coffee shop offerings such as sandwiches, jackets, and salads, as well as coffee and cakes. I just had a cappuccino — a nice big frothy one — and sat outside to watch the Broadmead shoppers. Good for smokers, the place has comfy seating out on the pavement. It’s not the most pleasant location to sit and relax: there are quite loud buses tanking along, and it’s busy with people flocking into Broadmead from the Stokes Croft end. However, as a place to have a quick coffee, a smoke and a sit-down, it’s a decent choice. I just wish the place had a bit more of an individual style to it. «Café Mocha» is such an unimaginative name! And the décor is really just plain, generic, coffee shop brown.

A new café that has sprung up the street between Primark and the central Tesco Metro, I thought I’d check it out to give you guys the lowdown. And, actually, I was very surprised by the very reasonable prices and good food on offer. My girlfriend and I each had a jacket potato — mine was tuna mayo, with a small amount of fresh salad, and it was absolutely delicious, by the way. The coffee here is pretty good, too, so I definitely come here again next time I’m in town and don’t fancy throwing money at all the generic Nero/Uno/Bucks in Broadmead.
