We used to live near this butcher and now we’ve moved a couple of miles away we still come here! Chris and his helper, Chris(occasionally Chris helps out too) are what you want from a butcher — smart and with a big white apron on and asks how you’ve been and comments on the weather. His meat is first class, free range(we asked him once and he looked disappointed that we had to ask) and local. He is generous with his cuts to the point that you may have to tell him to size it down a bit! And he will always get in anything you need — he can easily get more unusual items such as game in within a week. If anyone is unsure about using a butcher rather than going to the supermarket, this is a great place to start. I often go in and just ask what is a good cut or just what is best in season at the moment. You then can ask for just as much as you need, it is all cut on order with a fantastically big cleaver, and prices easily beats a supermarket’s and it tastes so much better. I have never felt silly not knowing what to ask for and Chris always seems to enjoy that we’re working our way through pretty much every cut of every animal that can be eaten!
