Funny little place tucked away in one of Bristol’s most rural areas. To access this pub you must pay a young gentleman 50 pence to take you across a lake in a boat and back again when you have done your drinking. I would say that the pub décor and layout isn’t totally to my liking but it gets full marks for its surroundings and rather large outdoor area which played host to some of Bristol’s best looking dogs. I didn’t eat but the food intrigued me, leaving a lasting visual impression with burgers in flour dressed baps, served in deep enamel dishes and plenty of good condiments to choose from. Another positive addition to the place is that the staff are just wonderful and were totally fine with me when I vomited from heatstroke in the tiny sink in the male toilets, despite clogging it right the fuck up with undigested chicken and carrots. One of the bar ladies even brought me a glass of tap water afterwards and put some ice in it which shows a degree of effort on her behalf and sincerity. You just rarely get service like that these days — much appreciated!

This is an absolute beauty hidden on the river Avon, I will agree that the inside is not the ritz but the friendly staff and beautiful garden more than make up for it . Oh and the short boat ride across the river to get there brings out the inner child in us all. The food is reasonably priced and perfectly edible but the main attraction here is the location . I would definitely go back either for there annual music and cider festival or on a BBQ day, as I’ve heard there quite legendary

I’ve wanted to go to Beese’s since a friends showed me a photo about a year ago. I finally made it there last weekend and it was everything I was expecting and more! It was about a 20 minute walk from my mates house and incredible to think that you can get from St George to somewhere so lovely in a few minutes. Not that St George isn’t lovely, but, um, you know what I mean! We got to the pub and had to call them to get someone to pick us up on the boat — which is the only way to get to them from the other side of the river. We sat outside and luckily for us(maybe not for some) there was some background music from a 40th party at the other side of the garden — which I loved, but some might not! The bar menu was pretty basic, but not short of your standard largers, beers, ciders and top shelf spirits. Food wise the menu was good. Nothing fancy but a decent selection of pub grub: burgers, wraps, steak, chips etc all nicely cooked. There were quite a few dogs in the garden which again I really liked. I don’t have a dog but if I did then I’d definitely take it for a walk and ‘spontaneously’ stop here for the rest of the afternoon! I walked to the bar at one point and there was a mother duck with 4 little chicks running around the garden. I’m used to living in the city so I’m definitely not used to that; it was great! I hope summer never ends so I can go back to Beese’s and sit in the garden every weekend!

When(the operative word) we get a sunny summer day I like to head down to Beese’s for a lazy afternoon. Situated on the banks of the Avon, its a tea shop and riverside bar all rolled into one quaint package — great for a date or a light lunch with your nan! The full cream tea is less than £4 and they do a stonking BBQ too, with delish veggie alternative like double portobello mushroom burger with halloumi. Best of all, I like hopping on the Conham water ferry after my lunch, fare just 25 pence across the river and dogs go free! What’s nice about the riverside cosiness of it is the history. The old Mrs Beese opened it in 1846, the captain of the ferry was Mr Beese. The decking area is chillax central, and they’ll even erect a marquee for your wedding reception. Aww.

A truely hidden gem of Bristol yet bizarrely it only opens for 6 months of year! Although it’s a bar restaurant you’d never know from the outside where you’d think it was nothing more than an old house in a pretty garden. Getting to the place is a triumph in itself such is it’s secluded position and it can only be reached by car by going through the less than attractive local estate. When you do reach it though you’re in for a treat as it serves up a great range of light meals and sandwiches that can be washed down with local ales. I heartily recommend the chorizo and brie baguette for a lunchtime snack. You can also sign up to their newsletter via the website for keep up to date with events such as bbq’s and the annual beer festival.

Ok, so it not in the least bit fancy and could do with a re-dec but that’s not so bad. This is a bit like a youth club for adults. I quite like that. There is a bar and they do sandwhiches and tea and cakes. The choice is limited and I like that. They do cream teas! So, not so bad after all, eh? Beeses tea-rooms is in a corking position, by the river and you can watch the rowers go by. There is a ferry that takes you to the other side of the, narrow, river and the garden is beautiful in the summer. They also do barbecues.
It is also in a very beautiful park with wonderful wildlife.
