Punching above it’s weight, Barrett newsagents is always throwing out surprises. For Valentines day they were selling copius amounts of cards and also some flowers, as well as the selection of chocolate boxes you would expect. So it was a one stop shop for those husbands coming home late on the 13th and the pin has dropped, they need some valentine stuff, and they need it quick, they pop into Barrett’s and bish-bash-bosh, they have Valentines day in the bag! A friendly store, and all the newspapers and magazines you could possibly want on the shelves.

Fantastic newsagent with all the proper elements. Whilst the Co-Op nearby has the basic TV and kiss n’ tell magazines you can come in here and find the hobbyist magazines and also have more space to check out the weekend papers. I come here to get my music and photography magazines without having to go into the city centre. Also, of course, a fine selection of confectionary items, your basic stationery and household goods. Open at an unholy hour it is good for pre-work papers and cigarettes.

This is a little local newsagents on Fishponds Straits. It doesn’t really compete much with Co op and Woolworths(both very near) for a wide range of products but it’s been there for as long as I can remember and I like to go in there to buy sweets because they have a decent selection. It’s relatively old looking inside but they have a good choice of magazines and newspapers. They have a bit of local stuff too — fudge produced in the west country etc. which is nice They have a few cards at the back of the shop but to be honest there’s a better selection further up the road in the Hallmark card shop.
