Bagel bar! In a bar type set up so if you want a cheeky beer with your lunch, go ahead, order away. It was a little inundate with toddlers and buggies when I was there but prior to the baby ambush there were lots of 20 – 30 year olds hanging out in a bar/café way doing some work, enjoying delicious salted beef. So maybe avoid the child feeding time of 12:30 — 1:15. They have lots of different flavours of bagel but for me, it’s hard to go past salted beef. Whatever the pickle is that they use is really, really delicious. The one thing they were missing was table hot sauce but everything else was thought of. They even have a vegan option. And ham, and chicken, and vego and pretty much all of the fillings. And you can order a side of chips and turn your experience into more of a ‘burger-with-a-hole’ type lunch. Lots of local producers supported here so expect ethically, fresh ingredients. Bagels aren’t always the ‘neatest’ things to eat so maybe don’t go here on your first date, wait until tinder date number 4.

Disclaimer: je suis française. Le gout du pain me manqué. Je suis, malheureusement et malgré moi, intransigeante… Et du coup, Bagel Boy, qui avait pourtant tout pour me plaire, s’en tire avec trois étoiles. J’explique : Tout pour me plaire?

Why I haven’t reviewed Bagel Boy before I have no idea, as I’m something of a regular! Anyone who can fill the humble bagel with so many weird and wonderful flavour combinations and make it one of the most satisfying lunch options in town is a total winner in my book. The foods excellent, it’s reasonable, the venue is lovely, the atmosphere’s laid back, the staff are awesome and on too if that they always seem to have the best 80’s playlists going when I go! So if you like your bagels delicious served with a generous dose of Phil Collins on the side then you’ll love Bagel Boy!

I do quite like Bagel Boy it has to be said. I’ve heard of it before but never had the chance to pop in until tonight. A fantastic range of English and Bristol brewed lagers, ales and ciders, some brewed just less than a mile away! With local sourcing like this you can sure bet the accept Bristol pounds too! The décor is actually quite funny as for some people you may reminisce over old house parties you went to as you sit next to a bench and a log fire whilst having a beer with friends and maybe some snacks. There’s great artwork on the walls too, and I’m not on about boring Mona Lisa, I mean a funky fox, bristols biggest nightmare but they are adorable. Great guys that run the place, got talking to them about the burger challenge they do, what a task that looks like. 20 minutes to finish a three stack burger with bacon and toppings along with fries, drink and a sundae. Sounds like a great meal for two but a diabetic’s worst nightmare! Prices are good, they’re support local producers and offer crazy burger, which as you may or guessed are in bagels. Bloody crazy. Pop down and try it sometime!

Firstly, this is a very cool place. It’s chilled, there’s contemporary artwork, and they’ve got a great range of beers. I’m sure it would also be good for parties. I will return to try out the rest of the menu. Unfortunately the bagel I had was not fantastic. I ordered the New York Boy: hot salt beef, pickle, American mustard. It came nicely presented in a basket and looked fantastic. However, the amount of mustard was overpowering, the bagel was a bit under toasted, but worst of all, the beef didn’t taste of anything. I ordered salt beef because it’s something I don’t eat at home and this was a real let down. A redeeming quality was that the meal was cheap. A lunchtime special includes: any classic bagel, snack(crisps or cookie), and soft drink or coffee for £5, 11am-3pm. They also sell a range of hot beef, lamb and pig, patty style bagels(burgers). They look good and that’s what I’m going to order on my return. Honourable mention to the Fatboy Challenge: bacon double cheese burger with pastrami, salt beef, and greens. With multiple sides of fries, chilli, coleslaw, fish fingers, and ice cream. £20 or free if you eat it in 20mins.

What a cool wee joint this is. Who doesn’t love bagels? Well, actually, sadly I cannot love them any more(GF4lyf or something…) but I USED to love bagels and I imagine everyone else is the same. But even though their namesake is a menu stocked full of bagels, as well as burgers, they also have some salads — and mighty fine salads they are, certainly not an afterthought. I had the haloumi salad and it was a generous serving of fresh leaves, peppers, haloumi and deliciousness. Sometimes salad can be dry, the leaves can be turning, the portion of haloumi small or not well-grilled. But the same amount of «let’s make this a frickin’ delicious lunch» attention to detail had evidently gone into the salads, as well as the bagels. I can’t speak for the bagels, but if they’re as good as the salads then they’re onto a winner. The space is cool, big fox mural on the wall(foxes were so hot in Bristol when I visited, who knew). Good tunes. Friendly staff. Patchy /unreliable wifi. But don’t go there to work, go there to eat an awesome lunch.

If your looking for funk, bagels and maybe a cheeky beer for lunch, look no further! This hidden little gem round the back of St Nicks market serves up bagels with pretty much any filling you can think of: chicken, chilli con carne, beef patties, hummus and other vegetarian stuff! It is ultra cool with long wooden benches, bar stools at the windows and some awesome funk music to set the tone. I can’t remember the name of the bagel I had, but it was the first on the ‘Special’ menu. It had chicken, bacon, swiss cheese, homemade slaw and I swapped BBQ sauce for hot chilli sauce. It came out toasty warm and it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was proper breast and perfectly seasoned and the homemade slaw was insanely good without too much mayo; I hate shop bought, heavy mayo coleslaw! This is a perfect, casual little lunch spot.

Heard about bagel boy by word of mouth from a few people. Finally tried it out with a couple of friends. Sandwiches are huge and well worth the money while not skimping on quality. Will definitely be back in the bear future.
