This started as an alternative/eco-shop but has since been taken over by volunteers in the local community to run it as a community space and so far the results look good. It has a great range of books on green building, gardening and the like plus now also has a café. Worth checking out!

Want to learn about a sustainable future, or what you can do to become a greener household? This vibrant hub of green is the place for you. In the middle if Montpelier’s cool district is this community owned and run eco-café-bookshop. It doubles up as a not for profit events space and internet café run by volunteers. They run super storytelling for children events and talks on diverse subjects like green cuisine and gardening. They also stock a whole load of books and magazines on eco and ethical living and children’s books. The café dishes up delicious fair-trade coffees and teas and some scrummy homemade cakes, including a squishy Welsh apple cake that I washed down with elderflower cordial. Good place to meet friends and learn about the environment, if that’s your bag.

This community run space is a unique internet café and bookshop run by volunteers from the local area. 7G runs a membership scheme, whereby you can get involved with its running and volunteers are always welcome to help out. Events here in December include Storytelling for Children on the 6th and a talk on Green Cuisine by Rachel Demuth on the 11th. 7G has a great selection of books and magazines on eco and ethical living, permaculture and children’s books. The café does a fine selection of fair-trade coffees and teas and its environment is an integral place to meet with friends and share ideas and information.
