Recent night out with a group of lads, we all got a bit lost and ended up at different places. 3 of us came across this place and popped in to get a drink and regroup. It was absolutely dead, there was a DJ playing and literally 2 other people. When the bouncer overheard me on the phone telling a few other lads to come and meet us he informed me he wouldn’t let them in. No wonder they had no customers if that is the attitude. Thanks for the drink then, see you soon.

Very excellent pub, right in the middle of the shopping-mayhem that is Brighton! After spending about 4 hours bouncing from Boxing Dale sale to Boxing Day Sale, I needed a break and this was a glorious find directly outside one of the main shopping spots. After walking in the huge double gothic-feel timber doors we knew we were on to a winner. Inside it feels like a real English pub. Open fires, board games, candles, plenty of tables, sofas and a very well-stoked bar. Alcohol was only going to help me get over the shopping but they also have a great stock of soft drinks, teas and coffees. We managed to grab a table right away and we spent a lovely few hours in here, playing cards, chatting to the manager and just enjoying the fact that the shops were not shut. We only delved into the liquid refreshments but the passing food looked excellent, proper food grub. Huge outdoor heated area also was an attraction for the passing smokers. Get in here, i’d say. I’ll be back next time I venture to the south coast…

The Western Front doesn’t have the best location, being situated directly outside Churchill Square shopping centre. However, for a town centre pub, it’s actually half decent. It almost feels like an old warehouse inside, that said a pretty small warehouse. There are big wooden doors, wooden floors, wooden tables… you get the idea. Its a pretty decent vibe, the bar staff are friendly and the bar is well stocked. I haven’t eaten here and didn’t look at the menu so can’t comment on the food. Outside there is a large seating area, and although it’s certainly not the best view in Brighton, it’s handy for an al fresco pint if the shopping all gets a bit much. There is also a handily placed ATM just outside, just in case you have spent all your cash in the nearby shops!

Located next to the now abandoned Church of Scientology just off of Churchil Square, this is a slightly sub standard pub that offers little more than the expected minimum. Having recently undergone a refurbishment, Western Front now has an awful glass wall to complement the shabby and ageing interior. Drink offers are relatively good here, although still not really worth it. I came here and had a steak sandwich which was extremely disappointing, at £5.95 it wasn’t particularly over priced, but the luke warm microwaved taste left me firmly under the impression that Western Front doesn’t have too much to offer.

This is a really good pub in a convenient location right by Churchill square. There’s a great outdoor seating area that catches the sun really well, making it a lovely place to sit outside and enjoy a typical pub lunch and a few drinks on a summery afternoon. They have a fair selection of snacks, burgers, sandwiches, salads and other main meals. I had a BLT sandwich with chips which was very tasty and exactly the kind of satisfaction that you would expect from a BLT! My friend ordered a chicken and avocado salad which looked just as delicious. The portion sizes are adequate, all of the staff are friendly and the prices are average. The indoor is very typically ‘pub’ decorated with wooden flooring and beams. There are plenty of tables to sit at with additional seating upstairs. The only thing I would say is that is it a little dingy inside. This place has quite a student vibe to it but also attracts lots of locals at the weekend when it can get quite lively with live music playing. I’ve never actually gone there in the evening for a drink myself, however many times I have popped in to go to the loo after getting off of the bus and have always noticed that it gets quite busy. Overall a very sociable and friendly place to go — whether you want a relaxing lunch in the sun or a few pleasant drinks in the evening.

I don’t mind this place, especially when you can get a table outside and watch the World drift by. For some reason though every time I do so I get a local nutter or an alcoholic wanting to chat about the rights and wrongs of cultivating tarmac. I must look like that kinda guy! The beer is a little pricey inside but its pretty much the most central bar in Brighton so its to be expected. There’s a nice area upstairs if its too crowded downstairs and the food has always been pretty decent. On a saturday you sometimes get some good street performers setting up outside. Look out for the Jimi Hendrix impersonator!

Slap bang in the centre of town, next to Churchill Square, the Western Front is always brimming with Brighton’s coolest kids, foreign students and young professionals. Good in the summer for a sun-soaked beer, as there’s plenty of outside seating and lots of street entertainment and live music to enjoy as you sup your pint. Inside, it’s cosy and modern, but still cool enough to be considered a pub with its dark furnishings and sofas. Local groups host language classes in the pub on selected weekday evenings, and it’s been known to host a few good indie bands, with local boys The Kooks treating punters to a secret gig a while ago. The only bad thing to say about this place is although they do play good music it’s pretty loud making a chilled conversation near impossible so it’s better for a more lively group gathering than a quiet drink.

During the week, this is a nice quietish pub with friendly staff and a chilled atmosphere. I go there a lot at lunch times for some classic pub food like ham, egg and chips or a fish finger sandwich. The prices are reasonable, especially considering that it’s in central Brighton. As for night time — if you’re going clubbing down West Street, this is a great place to start.

Considering it’s pretty hideous location, I actually don’t think that the Western Front is too bad. Despite looking out on to the periphery of the less than attractive Churchill Square, its a pretty nice pub. The inside is tastefully decorated and the staff are really friendly. Although the outside seating doesn’t afford great views, there’s plenty of room and it’s a pleasant enough place to enjoy a pint after a hard day’s shopping. It’s a good place to catch a band if you’re looking for live music in town. I’ve happened in on a couple of pretty good indie bands in my time. Back in the height of their popularity a couple of years ago, local band the Kooks did a secret gig at the pub, whilst I was there. Though it wasn’t really my thing musically, the pub proved a great venue for the lively band and crowd– the acoustics were good and the bar staff handles the hectic crowd with professionalism and grace. Like Sarah-Jane, I too have tried their fish-finger sandwich, and whilst obviously not as good as one I could knock up at home, I did think it was pretty tasty!

As the name implies, the Western Front is a bit of a spit & sawdust bar. If it was in America’s midwest, it would no doubt be occupied by cowboys and ranchers sinking bottles of beer at the end of a hard day’s work. As it’s in a British seaside town devoid of rodeo riders, it attracts a mix of sober and inebriated locals, students, musicians and shoppers exhausted from trekking round the Churchill Centre. To call them a mixed clientele is something of an understatement. In the daytime the Western Front play an interesting mix of rock and and at night, they hold a series of one-off gigs from local and visiting folk, country, roots and rock groups. I’d give it three stars for the music and the drinks but alas, last time I went I was served a fish-finger sandwich that looked and tasted inedible. The fries also tasted like they’d come from the nearby McDonalds and we all know cowboys prefer cornbread and chilli to fish fingers and fries.

This is a as central as it gets situated right next to Churchill Square shopping centre. The bar is most recognisable for its out side seating and can often be host to and outside stage for bands during the summer months. The location means it gets a varied clientele and is usually busy. The upstairs where bands plan is cosy, as the tables would only seat around 40 people, but its a nice atmosphere to acoustic sets. The artist they have are can include everything from electro indie pop to folk so its worth checking whats on if your into live music.

It is common to find bars in the centre of cities to be expensive and uninspiring. They will often abuse their convenient location, dropping standards of service and lacking imagination when it comes to décor, safe in the knowledge that lazy punters will keep coming in and spending cash. This cannot be said for the Western Front pub. Situated slap-bang in the centre of Brighton next to the painfully drab Churchill Square shopping centre, the unfussy style sits comfortably between modern and traditional. There are two floors and ample outdoor space for those rare sunny days, allowing you the choice of escaping, embracing, or surveying the commercialism of the adjacent mall. A great draw for me is the«Blingual» night on a Thursday. This is a chance to meet people from all over the world and trade language skills, but also to interact with and meet new people without the social barriers of a normal bar. It is perfectly normal to walk up to someone and say«Hey» or «Hola» and start a conversation, without seeming strange, or the assumption that you’re trying to hit on them. This is really refreshing and creates a great overall atmosphere, especially considering the name of the place conjures up images of The First World War — oh how we’ve moved on!

This is a great pub right in the centre of town — ideal fo enjoying an afternoon pint. Despite being central it attracts a really nice crowd and never gets overcrowded. I’ve heard good things about the food(but have to admit I’ve never eaten there).
