Great café, always people in there, outside seating, very natural friendly service and food cooked to perfection. English breakfast is absolutely perfect and the prices are v v cheap indeed

I came here for a coffee, which was better than expected, although still not good enough to make come back. My coffee was £1.80, which isn’t really any cheaper than you would pay in a better café. This is everything you’d expect from a British café, which is both good and bad. My friend had an omlette, which he actually said was really quite tasty. I personally wasn’t so convinced, but presentatiion isn’t everything. This is a reliable café that can provide for a wide range of people and tastes.

Essentially Gossip café is two parts tea room/diner to one part cheap restaurant. It satisfies a middle-of-the-road market, happy to sit in comfort relative to a park bench. While there isn’t anything outstandingly wrong with the place it remains pretty much unremarkable. In their defence I’d say their menu has a wide selection including omelettes, pasta, Jacket potatoes and sandwiches. It’s cheap and cheerful but not a prime choice.

The Gossip Café on George Street has the atmosphere of a classic diner with the squeeze ketchup bottles and old school sugar dispensers on every table. It’s quite cramped — they’ve set up three chairs at tables clearly designed for two and I’m not entirely confident that three people could eat three meals whilst sitting together. I ordered a tea for £1 and was a bit bummed out that it came with milk — I’m not a fan of that taste, nor of the assumption. Other items on the menu include pasta, burgers, fish, a list of ‘set specials’(which somehow makes them less special), breakfasts(many on toast) and about twenty sandwiches. Everything on the menu is under £5, and some of the sandwiches are under £2. Sweets in the display case are mostly the non-fresh, pre-packaged variety: cookies, bars and a few slices of carrot cake. It’s not a high quality place for lunch, but I’d still recommend it if you’ve got less than £5 and fancy a sit down meal.
