A very sophisticated gastropub in Hove. Delicious food and good service.

The Ginger Pig is my favourite restaurant in hove. The service, food and atmosphere are all amazing. This restaurant helped me to try new foods that I had not had before and I have never had a bad meal. It is great for vegetarians too!

I could wax lyrical all night about the stunning cooking here and the friendly service but instead ill simply say that I’ve just eaten one of the best meals I’ve ever had in here… on a regular Wednesday night. It says«pub food» in most of the listings for the place but I’ve paid more than double in «better» restaurants for food that didn’t match this place. I’ve only been once so can’t really say how consistent the Pig is but… ill take a gamble and give them five stars based on tonight’s performance.

Three of us came for Sunday lunch in the restaurant area. Helpful, friendly staff. Pleasant mixture of traditional Sunday fare and dishes with a modern edge. The roast sirloin was generous and the roast chicken with chicken and truffle boudin had great flavour. Dog friendly in the front bar area, which is an added bonus although we didn’t manage to book in time for that.

Please be very careful and check your bill. We had a nice meal here, it is gastro food so be prepared to pay a lot more than standard pub fare prices. I don’t have an issue with that, the food was very good. My issue is with the utter lack of customer service. Having a celebratory evening, we indulged on wine and cocktails to compliment the food. We were charged(I assumed) in error for 7 instead of 5 cocktails. We flagged this after paying the bill and realizing the mistake had been made, then the trouble began. A genuine lack of interest suddenly developed, my partner was spoken over numerous times but eventually, it was agreed we could go back and enjoy the paid for cocktails or simply get a refund to the card. The difference to the £150 bill was neglible but in matters like this, I’m sure you agree it’s the principle. My partner went back to sort out the £16 refund a day or so later and this time, was met with what I can only describe as blatant hostility. Was called a liar, accused of being Pixx! ed on the night and told categorically no refund and that we would not have been offered that. Seriously appalling service, short sighed and rude as we will never set foot in the restaurant again and will make sure everyone we know does not do so either. I am disgusted by this lack of basic service and the audacity to call a well paying and polite customer names is simply not acceptable. Arrogant and argumentative staff really should be reigned in(Roxanne) and assistant managers(Jackie), I would hope would be able to diffuse issues rather than accelerate them. I truly hope someone from the group gets to read this and address the issues. It is too late for us, the damage has been done but your reputation clearly is worth nothing to this venue, they treated clients carelessly and that will have far reaching consequences as I doubt we are in isolation. Such as shame but please, do yourself a favour and avoid these terrible people or I fear you will be treated the same or worse.

One of the finest meals I’ve had in a long time. There were three of us for dinner and each had a different starter and main course. The starters were amazing. The rabbit was brilliant; the beetroot was creative and tasty; the Burford egg dish was surprising in its complexity. Each appetizer was a mix of flavours, textures, and colour. The ribeye and pig were quite good. The bream main course was particularly stunning. Apparently, there has been a change in the chef in the last few months who has returned to the Ginger Pig with a new approach to cooking. I can’t speak highly enough about the food and presentation. As always, the atmosphere is warm and the service excellent.

How can you not love the Ginger Pig? It’s an old faithful of mine. It’s a more a treaty kind of place so I usually go on special occasions such as birthdays and things, albeit not crazy expensive. I prefer it to the Ginger Dog, as I think the service is friendlier and the dishes seem better executed here. My most memorable dishes have been a wood pigeon starter, mushroom ravioli Broth — deeeeelicious! And a partridge main. They have an extensive wine list, and the wait staff will always be happy to advise on a good pairing to compliment your dish. Definitely one of my favourite Brighton restaurants.

Out towards King Alfred’s in Hove, on Hove Street you’ll find the Ginger Pig. It’s one of the famous Ginger group who rightly have a very good reputation across the city for fine dining. It is not cheap but I’d say it was honestly priced. There’ s lots of local produce on the menu and seasonal fare too. This is where I take Mrs Sussexspy for a festival dinner and we always have a lovely time. Certainly one of the best restaurants in the city.

Our favourite place to eat in Hove, great food with the benefits of a loyalty card. Go a little earlier and have a drink at the bar, the wine list is pretty good. The food is always great and the portions are hearty, the staff are usually always very friendly, pre-book at weekends as it gets busy.

Of the four Ginger restaurants in the local area, this is the one I have frequented most often. It’s a typical gastro-pub and has a nice vibe about it. As with the other ginger restaurants, it specialises in local, seasonal produce and produces innovative and tasty dishes from said ingredients. On my last visit I went for the crispy pig’s head croquettes(being the most obscure thing on the menu, it was the obvious choice). Very tasty, but although some of the meat was really good quality, there did seem to me a high proportion of fat. They were served with chicory, the bitterness of which cut through the slight fattiness of the croquettes nicely. For main course, I ordered the sea bass from the specials board. This was served with crushed potatoes and sea vegetables(similar to samphire in taste, but looked slightly different). This was really delicious. For pudding I chose the cherry and pistachio tart with cherry ripple ice cream. The tart was a deep shade of green, and although tasty, the ice cream was the winner on this dish. This, washed down with a couple of glasses of white Rioja, was a very pleasant meal. My only complaint with the Ginger Pig is that they have a tendency to squeeze in as many people as possible into quite a small space. This can result in the tables being very close to each other and it makes it impossible not to hear other people’s conversations. Apparently, they have an outside eating area but unfortunately the weather has never been good enough on my visits for be to utilise this. They also do a set menu at lunchtimes for a very reasonable price.

One of my favourite restaurants. Delicious food and haven’t ever been disappointed. A decent stroll along the seafront from Brighton always works up an appetite. Look out for their special offers… we’ve been midweek for lunch and(I think) it was two courses for £10. Great value. Only downside being that the dining room feels a bit stuffy and I’m always worried the kids will trash the place… Haven’t been to either of their other two restaurants but will do sometime…

After loadsa favourable reviews from friends and people wot eat, we had a nice meal here as a four with some good friends. Grabbed the last ‘bar’ table, which you can’t book, but apparently you can now book the majority of tables(these were already booked up). Very good grown-up service, lovely and interesting dishes, warm buzzy atmosphere. Harveys(local ale) on tap — really nothing to complain about. Only grumble was the lack of bits and pieces to accompany my main meal of pheasant breast and pheasant sausage which left it being a bit Atkins-y — all protein and no carbs. But given we’d had a starter and the option of dessert too it was really not biggy. Good value too — the price was about £25 per head for starter, some drinks and main but no dessert. Pretty good in my book. I recommend.

Lovely room, open space with raugh material very well combined. Love the big board with the specials of the day and the bargain menu at £ 10.00. Great idea the tap water as default as well. Good food, quite good wine list, nice staff. Tables are a bit too close one to another but, I guess, is the only way to get as much as possible for a small restaurant! The only annoying thing that made the bill unpleasant: they charge £2.00 for the bread, each time they refill it: but no one told us! And of course is not written on the menu!!! Anyway now I know, if I’ll be around I’ll definitely be back. Recomended

Great food and wine for extremely good pricing. 10£ for a 2 course meal was a bargain, presentation and tastes are excellent, did allow ourselves to order a really good wine. Goat cheese served lucky warm with pears and a delicious corn flour cake: amazing. We will definetely go back often.

This is a wonderfully noisy and bustling dining experience. Expect a quiet start to the evening if you get there early then suddenly, stampede, it’s full to the brim and you wonder how this rather out of town eatery came to feel like you were in the centre of a metropolis. The service is very good and hats off to the staff that manage to keep their cool through the bustle. The food is seasonal so often falls in line with my taste buds, it’s not overly fussy and the prices aren’t too extreme, though it’s more of a first class restaurant than its billing as a gastro pub.

Not sure. Its too formal to be a pub in both the menu and the starchy seating. Not for me. Although I do love the Gingerman restaurant in Norfolk Square.

The Ginger Pig is the second of the three Gingerman Restaurants(yep, apparently the guy that owns them is a fellow ginger — woohoo!) and is located just off the seafront in Hove. Its a fair walk from the center of town but well worth the trek. Its a gastro pub as it should be in my opinion; non pretentious, friendly and comfortable. The whole place has that Parisian bistro feel which I love. The place recently won a ‘Bib Gourmand’ award — so when my starter, trio of paortland crab with crab soufflé, crab bisque & hot crab toast arrived I knew why. It was presented on a black slate tile which looked amazing and tasted even better. For the main I went for the haunch of venison which can sometimes be a touch too gamey but it was perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had starter and main each, a bottle of white wine(plus a glass of red with my venison) and coffees(mine was Irish) and the bill came to around £75. All Gingerman restaurants give you a stamp on a reward card for every £25 you spend though, once you fill up your card you get a two course meal for one to use at any of their places. The food is not a long way off Michelin star quality in my opinion so I think its extremely reasonable here.

Whenever we would plan to visit our friend in Hove she’d insist in going here and now we’ve been we visit as often as we can. It gets very busy and they do cram a lot of people into the limited space but it’s not a problem in the Ginger Pig as it really adds to the atmosphere. There is a nice varied menu of traditional English and European food. All wonderfully presented, using great ingredients and tasting as you’d expect. Their selection of drinks is also particularly good. During our last visit our table grew from four to seven and back to four and they were more than happy to accommodate the fluctuation in our numbers! A lovely bar/restaurant neatly tucked away in Hove — hunt out the Ginger Pig next time you’re there!
