Another shop I don’t quite understand. I don’t understand why we don’t have a Wilkinson’s in Brighton instead. A little overpriced, staff usually seem disinterested. I’ll probably go there to buy a fan though.

With the closure of Woolies(RIP) I sometimes get a little panicky of the possibility of Dyas closing down, where else to buy all these necessary electrical goods on the High Street?! The Dyas are so liberal with their massive range of electrical goods it makes anything seem possible, and it probably is. Most items in the shop seem fairly and honestly priced and the quality of goods is top notch. For all the practical extras a home needs to function Dyas is a one stop shop, stocking everything from bins to blenders. The store is well set out, the staff are friendly and helpful and if you get passionate about things that chop, peel, steam and grill you will find the selection more than provides for your needs.

The advantages of living in Brighton are endless. One of the disadvantages is the endless amount of limescale! I’ve lived here almost four years now and in that time have gone through three brand new kettles. I know I drink a lot of tea and coffee but not enough to justify burning out new appliances. Having bought the last couple of kettles from Currys, I decided to check out the kitchen section of Robert Dyas this time and was pleasantly surprised by the goods on offer. As well as stocking a variety of travel kettles, cordless kettles, filter kettles and traditional heritage kettles with whistles, they had a brushed stainless steel number from Kenwood. Marked down from £50 to £24.99, I scooped it up and took it to the counter where a lady called Mercedes rang it up, complimented me on my hair and wished me a lovely evening.

In my search for a blender last week, it did not occur to me to check out a shop called Robert Dyas — the Ironmonger. In my defence, we don’t ‘monger’ anything in Canada, and I found the name of this place to be a bit frightening, actually, whenever I walked by. However, it’s now to become one of my first stops when looking for houseware. There were tonnes of kitchen appliances, ranging from cheap and low quality to top of the line items in toasters, blenders, sandwich makers, bread makers and slow cookers. Other kitchen stuff included baking tins and pans, rolling pins, cheese graters, dishware, utensils and cutlery and various helpful gadgets were also displayed — the gadgets often explained by an infomercial playing on a loop. Non-kitchen goods offered included cleaning stuff, including small supplies as well as vacuums, gardening gear and a variety of other home and hardware sections. In summary, it was quite a pleasant surprise to discover this place, and I’ll definitely be returning.

Robert Dyas stocks a great collection of homeware items, kitchenware, and kitchen utensils, with everything from crockery to spatulas catered for. The sheer range of products on offer can make walking through this store a little daunting, but if you manage to bypass your fears, you’ll find a great shop, that operates as a solution to most of your homeware needs.

This is one of the larger stores of the Robert Dyas hardware chain, set over two floors. Although not the cheapest store, it’s reasonably priced for most things, and it sells all kinds of incredibly useful stuff — like an extensive range of drain unblockers, should you ever need them. They also do a good range of things like kitchen plastics and assorted small electrical items(kettles, microwaves, office shredders). Another bonus is that this store is open seven days a week(things always tend to go wrong when you least expect!). They’d get another star from me if their service was better: the staff are generally friendly and try to be helpful, but it always seems a bit chaotic, especially at the till. They need some process improvement here.
