What I like best about the gardens café is the sheer speed of service, when most lunchtime eateries are still lacing up their boots, this place is already around the first bend! When you’re pressed for time on a lunchtime catch up with friends, this café is a godsend. I really cannot emphasise enough how important it is to be served quickly and for your food to arrive shortly after, so you’ll be pleased to hear that the café seems to be run by Speedy Gonzalez. Sandwiches are stuffed full of filling and relatively cheap(for Brighton) although the jacket potatoes could be bigger. Cakes(in my opinion, the most important part of any meal) are a mixed bag… avoid the dry brownie and stick to the other tray bakes. If it wasn’t for the dry brownie on my last visit, you’d be seeing an extra star on this review. I love the setting and how peaceful the gardens feel even when choc-a-block with tourists, plus avoiding soggy bottoms(from sitting on the grass) is always a bonus.

Friendly staff, lovely atmosphere in the heart of the city, surroundings of the pavilion gardens and the lovely Royal Pavilion in all its glory. Just been here today, it’s an outside café, but it’s still nice to sit outside and enjoy a warm pot of affordable tea and if your feeling cheeky some lush home made cake! Perfect in the summer and lovely in the other seasons! It’s been open for over a 100years and it’s what makes England so traditional! Go down there and support this little Art Deco style café because it’s part of Brighton’s and Britain’s culture!

What a place to either switch off, or prepare for the next assignment. As a photographer, and member of the press, I get to cover quite a few weddings in the Pavilion., It is here that I like to sit and finalize my shooting plans. Amid lush greenery, peace and like-minded people one can become very calm. In fact, with the first class food, absolutely great coffee and first rate service, it can make one reluctant to get on with the job. Thanks a lot and best of luck John Green Ifnm

We have been here twice during our visits to Brighton and will certainly come again if we can. Lovely little café in a charming little park with great tea, coffee and sandwiches. Sometimes there’s good live music. Very nice atmosphere, very friendly and efficient staff. Absolutely recommended!

Really beautifully set little café, now in midsummer it’s hidden from the bustle of the streets behind greenery and with a lovely view over the pavillion. If you’re lucky you’ll even get live music to go with your coffee. Just make sure the weather is good when you go, there is no hiding from the rain.

A perfect little spot, for sitting in the sun(if only occasionally!), and watching Brightonians stop for lunch. The selection of teas and coffee’s is nice — mine’s an Earl Grey, please, and they are reasonably priced for the centre of the city. There’s a wonderful selection of homemade cakes — the Sussex Plum is proper lovely. You can also grab a sarnie or a baguette, although these are a little on the pricey side for my taste, and my pocket! But, if you want a perfectly pleasant cup of tea amidst the hubbub of Brighton, you can’t get nicer than this.

The Gardens are a haven of peace — a complete break from the busy city centre which surrounds them. The Café provides excellent refreshments to help enjoy the surroundings and there is ample seating at the tables for those who don’t want to sit on the grass. It provides various cakes and scones — some of them home-made and all tasting very fresh. It’s a great place to meet up with with people and have a chat — my favourite chat here was with a German lady who, having just visited the Pavillion, told me she didn’t like the artistic tastes of our British Royals. I reminded her they were probably more Germanic than British — Our conversation went no further. For disabled people there are parking spaces in New Rd adjacent to the Gardens and there are slopes down from this road or level access from North St or Church St.

A favourite place of mine to snatch an hour of sun for some alfresco lunching, usually during the weekday lunch breaks from work. It seems most of Brighton also have the same idea as me, the lawns are frequently packed to bursting point with locals and visitors alike, students and families, all pitching camp and soaking up the sunshine in the lavish settings of the Pavilion. I’ve seen and also enjoyed the sitar busker that Alice speaks of below; although he was drowned out a bit by the nattering foreign students who settled down next to us. There’s a lovely little café selling hot and cold food and drinks as well, so if you forget your lunch you won’t have to go without.

A summer in Brighton wouldn’t be the same without a good spot of sun-worshipping in The Pavilion Gardens. There’s always a lovely atmosphere about the place as people escape the heat and bustle of North Laine for a bit of a sit-down. And if you don’t fancy lying down in the grass, there are deckchairs for hire during the summer months. I love just sitting here either with a book or just watching the people go by as it’s usually pretty peaceful, albeit in a Brighton kind of way. When I say peaceful, I mean there’s usually a background drone of the city and the odd busker here and there, but I’m a person that hates complete silence anyway. My favourite time to be here is when there’s a sitar player busking with the background of the Indian-inspired Royal Pavilion it’s quite a surreal experience. When all the flowers are out at the height of Summer, the Gardens look absolutely beautiful. I graduated in a ceremony at Brighton Dome last July and had all of my photos taken here I don’t think I’ve ever felt so lucky to live in Brighton. Definitely one of my favourite green spots in the city.

Surrounded by leafy trees and seasonal plants, the Pavillion Gardens Café is one of the nicest places to sit and watch the world go by. In the autumn and winter, it’s relatively quiet with locals watching the squirrels darting up the trees as they sip big mugs of tea and coffee. In the spring and summer however, it becomes a bit of a magnet for families and tourists visiting the nearby Dome or Pavillion. Owned and run by the same family since the 40s, the café has about a dozen tables outside and serves simple, British dishes like salads, soups, sandwiches, baguettes and baked potatoes. For those craving a bit of home comfort, it also serves baked beans on toast and a big selection of sweet treats like apple pie, carrot cake, coffee cake and millionaire’s shortbread. I’ve never tasted their rock and coconut cakes but apparently, they’re pretty heavenly.

Pavillion Gardens Café is a wonderful summer sitting spot, a great outdoor space with cheap drinks, cakes and the like, and an easy place to wile away many an hour. Somewhere like Brighton, where it is hard to find a place to just sit and be, especially in a natural environment, this café is the ideal place to be when the sun is beating down. I really can’t recommend it enough. The food and drink on offer, while lovely, is the least impressive of what the café has to offer. The selection is wide, but I generally wouldn’t recommend eating here beyond a lovely slice of cake and the impressive selection of teas and coffees. What I come here for is the wonderful ambiance. With the hustle and bustle of New Road behind you, and the calming, quiet Pavillion Gardens in front, as well as plenty of tree cover in the warm summer months, this is the ideal place to sit and soak up the rays. There’s even a tree chart telling you what is what, which is a lovely addition. In the end, you’re not going to get much out of the ordinary at this café, plastic seats and all, but the location is divine. If it isn’t too busy here, grab a seat and absorb some sun!

I always take visiting mates here in the spring and summer as its such a nice place to hang out and have some lunch. It does get really busy on hot days so do expect a little bit of a wait. The surroundings are fantastic here, right between the Theatre Royal and the The Royal Pavilion which has some beautiful gardens to relax and enjoy a cup of tea. They have an amazing selection of baguettes available here but when its hot, the brie and cranberry really is good.

This small café offers outdoor seating only(or just loungeing in the grass), but it’s an excellent café if you fancy a lazy summer’s afternoon in the pretty Pavillion Gardens. They shut for the winter(reopening in March), unlike the brave outdoor Gossip Café on the Old Steine. You’ll find friendly service and some good food with basics like jacket potatoes as well as their famous tea and fruit and coconut rock cakes. It can get a bit busy in the peak summer period, but it’s a lovely refuge from the busy nearby shopping areas if you choose an early summer month.

The café is situated in the gorgeous Pavilion Gardens in central Brighton. In the summer months there are regular events that keep the crowds coming in for picnics and general lounging around. Last Autumn they had these life size elephant sculptures made out of shrubbery. The café sits underneath the big trees at the top of park and they have live music at all times of the year, including local choir and orchestra performances. There is no inside sitting as the café is more of a kiosk with tables outside, so no ideal if its raining but the caf is popular through out the colour months because of its unique location and(free) live music.

I love these gardens. If you’ve had enough of peoples elbows on a Saturday as you try to traverse the bustling shops then pop in here. I can’t gaurentee any solitude at the wekend but at least you can gaze at the glorious eccentricity that is the Pavilion whilst inhaling the aroma of the lovely flowers. In the winter near christmas I love the lights scattered around and the café is lovely to sit at in the spring-great snacks and drinks a you while away the time making up stories about those lounging on the grassy verges. Theres always entertainment in the form of budding superstars of tommorrow who meanwhile busk to earn a crust. Talking of crusts the most amusing pasttime here can be making internal bets with yourself over who will be next to be divebombed by those greedy Brighton pidgeons. Don’t let that put you off though. A haven amongst the bustle of the high street.

This is a mainstay of Brighton life! A wide variety of coffee, the cakes and even the sandwiches look home made. Its well staffed, and the staff are often really helpful too. A great place to sit and people watch — the gardens are often used for exhibitions now, such as the fundraising elephant exhibition recently, or there are buskers(who don’t come round the tables, they’re in the public space). Lovely for people with children — the grownups can have their coffee, and the children are free to run around and play — even the road thirty yards away is now pedestrianised. There are clean, well regulated public toilets at the edge of the gardens in another direction.

I must admit I use this garden as a short cut. I very rarely go here to enjoy the park. But walking through its lovely to admire the flower beds and very old tree’s. The lawn area seems badley kept though. But thinking about the amount of people that lay on the grass I suppose it will get as bald as me! At weekends its fun to watch the wedding parties having their photo’s taken here. Its also fun watching the illegal cyclist trying to weave their way through them as well! Over the years I’ve seen some good buskers. Jugglers and novelity acts seem popular here. Music wise the buskers are also entertaining. There is a café here. Bit dear but what part of rip of Britain isn’t? One also has to pay for deck chairs as well!
