M and B Domestic Appliances can be a little gold mine if you’re after a stereo amplifier of kettle on the cheap. It’s like a modern day rag and bone merchant where the ex-​medical skeleton and selection of horse brasses have been replaced by out of date HIFI equipment and old Hotpoint washing machines. As you enter the first thing that might strike you is the fact that all the stock, despite being second hand, seems to be marked up slightly above recommended retail price. Try not to be put off by this as with any rag and bone slash junk shop these prices should be treated as a starting point for a good haggle rather than a reason to leave.
Sadly though, there is a reason why some of the more genteel or mild-​mannered folks among us might want to leave, and that is the extremely lax approach to service and foul language of the ever changing selection of people working here. I popped in today for a quick browse and found that not only could I not get close to the stock but there appeared to be a domestic argument going on between the shop keeper and a woman at the back of the store. Don’t be disheartened though, as there are a few rarities to be picked up here if you endure.
